Starting A New Career From Scratch

My sister told me about a colleague who left her job recently, moved to Kansas with her husband who secured a new job there, and enrolled in a beauty school in Wichita.

According to my sister, the lady is very brave to take all these changes in her life in her stride. Many of us are stuck in a job for years because we dare not make a move and it is understandable when all of us are bogged down by financial commitments.

This lady says she does not mind leaving a job and going back to school. She said that with a qualification in cosmetology, she is confident more opportunities will open up for her. In contrast, I have been looking at my back-to-school options for the past few years but still haven't been able to make a decision yet!

Conflicting Replies From Maxis Customer Service

As mentioned in my previous post, I have subscribed to Maxi Broadband last evening to take advantage of Merdeka Promotion. I am thinking of switching my 3G mobile internet since paying RM98 monthly for my Celcom Advance is getting to be burdensome.

However, when i called up Maxis customer service last night, I was told that they don't advise people to access the internet from mobile phones since there may be additional charges outside of the package that I am subscribed to. of course I was shocked since as far as I know, there is only one mobile broadband package of various bandwidths.

So after getting that call, I asked a few friends who use Maxis broadband. They told me that there is no such thing and the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Unconvinced, I call up Maxis again and spoke to another customer service staff.

According to her, while Maxis does not offer support to most mobile phone models, they do support some HTC models. And the reason Maxis does not advise users of Maxis broadband to access the internet from mobile phone is not because of additional charges but because of technical reasons, which means that if we experience slow browsing or frequent disconnection, it is not the fault of Maxis.

Anyway, i guess I would have to make a trip to Maxis office to find out in-depth.

Collection of Childhood Toys

I was clearing out my store room the other day and came across a box of toys. These toys belong to my cousin brother, which my aunt asked us to keep since they were relocating very often some years ago due to work.

Now that my aunt has already left us and my cousin brother is already an adult I have asked him to come by my house and collect his toys. My cousin told me that he has no place for them right now since he is staying at the university dorm and would only claim his belongings when he has graduated and has his one living quarters.

Sigh... just because we have the space, everyone treats just like a dumping ground. You wouldn't believe the stuff that our relatives ask us to keep for them. Some of them even forget that they have things with us here. I once read that if you don't use something for more than a year, you probably don't need it anymore, which means you can dump it already.

Maxis 3G Internet

I subscribed to Maxis 3G internet last night to take advantage of Merdeka promotion. It's the lowest data package at RM48 per month with 1.5GB bandwidth. I would be getting a RM10 X 5 months rebate which means that I would have to pay RM38 per month for the first five months only. And I was given a USB modem which I would have to return if my subscription is cancelled before 6 months is over, and which I get to keep if it is cancelled after 6 months from the date of subscription.

I am actually fine with the speed and the bandwidth since I am online at home via Streamyx and it is only a backup line in case Streamyx is down or when I hit the road but I am concerned about the ambiguity over charges that may be incurred if I accessed the internet via mobile phone, as indicated by the customer service guy.

Now, I don't even know what to do....

Insurance Promotion

I received a call from an insurance agent last evening. According to her, she got my number through my bank. She asked if she could speak to me for a few minutes and I said OK. I later found out that she was promoting medical insurance. While it is important, I already have a small medical insurance policy and would rather use the monthly installment for a second medical insurance on something equally important, life insurance.

I have checked the website of Wholesaleinsurance.net and requested for a couple of quotes but I haven't commit myself yet as I really need to make careful consideration because it is a commitment of at least 20 years. It’s too long ahead for me to think about at the moment.

Also, in addition to the medical insurance and the impending life insurance, I am also paying for my brother’s medical insurance. That’s a huge burden on my shoulders.

National Day Holiday

I received a text message this morning from a friend, asking me to go for a drink. Frankly, although it's a public holiday today since it's National Day, I am just extremely lazy to get out and be caught in a traffic jam. I know it's strange that Ipoh also has heavy traffic but it's always like that during holidays or long weekends because everyone would be back home.

While my friends are going out for shopping (Merdeka Sale) and catching a movie later on, I am home watching YouTube videos of TBH inquest. There are eight parts to the inquest video. I have no been following the case, though I have feedback from friends and family, so these videos are very helpful in having a look inside the court room. It's just strange that I am watching them today of all days. LOL

Dog Boots For Better Footing

Before Snoopy became so ill he became bedridden for 7.5 months, he was already weak in his limbs and could not really balance himself well. I thought of many ways to help him walk, and a lot of times, I had to carry him in and out of the house because of the steps.

I bought rubber padding and laid them all over the house like carpet and then I thought that I might as well buy him dog shoes. When I was asking around trying to see which friend could help me get a pair since I couldn't find any in local pet shops, some of them, obviously non-dog lovers, were pretty sarcastic, asking if I was looking for "Jimmy Choo".

You see, a lot of people misunderstand that making dogs wear shoes or boots is dressing them up for fun or fashion but they don't realize that sometimes, it could be for other reasons as well. In Snoopy's case, it was to help him walk better. Till today, I am regretful that the pair of shoes that I bought for Snoopy arrived in the mail just hours before Snoopy was floored by an illness which rendered him totally bedridden. He never got to wear his boots.

I believe that if I had found out about Pawz Dog Boots earlier, my Snoopy wouldn't have had to suffer as much because of the grip these dog boots provide. You won't believe if I told you the number of times Snoopy slipped and fell, once even into the drain. I have nightmares even now, thinking of his sufferings. I am thankful, though, that he didn't suffer from broken bones or dislocated joints from all those falls. It would have been a lot worse for him, and for me.

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore in 3D

Gosh, as an animal lover, this is one movie that I must watch. You know, I have never been big on 3D movies all these while even though I have tried watching 3D wearing the special 3D glasses at large electrical stores where 3D TVs are sold. It's the new trend.

But with Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore it is really going to be worth watching in 3D even though to my eyes, there is really not that much of a difference watching in 3D or a normal movie. Anyway, I don't think it's screening in Ipoh. The normal show will be coming soon, though.

My friend has asked me to watch it in KL when I go down to the capital city again in September. I wonder how much the ticket will be. Probably a lot more expensive that normal tickets but I am afraid that by the time I go to KL after Hari Raya, the movie would have been taken down already.

Anyway, will at least try to catch the normal movie in Ipoh. Have watched the trailers online. Very nice.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Gift

My aunt and uncle will be celebrating their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary and the family is all excited about it. In this time and age where despite modern medical technology, everyone seems to be suffering from one disease or another so 50 years together as a couple is definitely an achievement.

I asked my cousin what they are getting for their parents. I plan to get the couple customized gold but I don't want my gift to be more valuable or elaborate than my cousins'. As a niece, I don't want to outdo the children, if you know what I mean.

If I were to buy a gift for my own parents if they do get to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, I'd be getting them something solid and valuable like gold bullion. Some people may think it's a boring gift but I know that my practical mother would definitely appreciate such a gift.

The Beauty of the Game (2009 TVB Drama)

Soon after Taiwanese drama, Autumn's Concerto, I started on The Beauty of the Game, a 2009 TVB drama, which I always watch in Cantonese. I don't need subtitles for these even though my Cantonese isn't the greatest. I know this is an older drama but if you know what happened to me during that period of time, yo would understand that I, or anyone in my position, would have no mind for senseless entertainment like dramas.

The Beauty of the Game is about three actresses from different backgrounds trying to make it in the entertainment industry in Hong Kong. Actually, one of them is already a big star so in the drama, she is trying to hold on to her popularity, with flash backs of her early acting career. The other two "new" actresses are best friends but because of fame, led to cracks in their friendship.

I have watched seven episodes right now, out of 20 episodes. Although this drama isn't a fast-action drama, the story line seems to move pretty fast. At least, it's not as draggy as Autumn's Concerto. Or perhaps it is only approximately 45 minutes long per episode compared to Autumn's Concerto.

Anyway, although I am interested to see the ending, I have lost the urge to "chase" after it. I don't know, maybe I have a lot more things going on than dramas for the time being. LOL

Affordable High Quality Web Conferencing

If you are running a business, I am sure you would be familiar with online conferencing already. Many companies have started to use it seeing how cost-effective it is but sometimes, the call quality is not as good as expected.

Even if you are not running a business but have friends and family scattered in various countries around the world, you really should try Web conferencing.

The Conference Group is a company that offers full conferencing solutions for both business and personal use. With them, you can be sure that you are using quality service backed by professionals in the industry so that every outgoing audio, video or web call is of the highest quality just as if you are using a land line telephone, but without paying premium cost.

I know that the main concern that some people have with online conferencing is the drop in quality in the middle of a conversation. The Conference Group ensures that this wouldn't happen so business people utilizing these services can have peace of mind.

Whether you are looking for audio or Video conference business solutions, The Conference Group provides the support required in terms of operator assistance, translation, transcription and playback services to name a few.

If you like Audio conferencing with friends or family, you would be glad to know that The Conference Group offers toll free access to many countries, including Malaysia, with rates starting from 2.5 cents per minute only!

Upload Songs To Memory Card Problem

I don't know what happened to my computer. Since I downgraded my OS from Win7 to Win XP, I am not able to upload songs to a phone memory card anymore. Doing so would take more than one hour for a 3 - 4 minute long track and sometimes, my computer hangs. Since taking such a long time is certainly not natural, most of the time, I just cancel the upload. There has got to be a faster way!

Previously, although my computer is too old to run Win7 smoothly, I could still upload songs to the memory card of my father's phone. It was slow but I did get quite a lot of tracks uploaded for him. I don't know how the shops do it. They are really fast.

And it's strange why Win XP doesn't work for me now because previously before I upgraded my OS to Win7, I was using Win XP too. I tried using Nokia PC Suite and it was crawling as well. It's really frustrating!!

Custom Postcard Printing

When I was looking for hassle-free printing solution, I was lucky to have been introduced to My1stop.com. This is a company that knows what customers want in easy-to-use online printing and I like it very much that that also offer environmentally friendly printing products like biodegradable products and recycled paper. I have to say that there aren't many online printers that have "Green" conscious people in mind!

My1stop.com can easily handle normal orders of calendar, business card, forms or Brochure Printing. Templates are available for download for free, which means savings for customers in terms of money and time.

In addition, for people who are looking for Custom Labels can also look for My1stop.com for the hassle-free process of placing an order which makes My1stop.com the top choice for people looking for affordable custom printing. Also, since not everyone is web savvy, My1stop.com provides customer service support through the telephone or live online chat to walk customers through the entire process.

When my friend wanted to look for affordable Postcard Printing, the first company that came to my mind was My1stop.com because of its convenience and full printing options. My friend wouldn't have to pay premium for these services. In fact, for her first order, she even gets to enjoy a 5% discount off her order!

That Awesome Gig [Tonight] In Support Of Indie Music

I received an invitation from a band member of Underheadlights but I am sorry I haven't time to post about the gig they will be playing at TONIGHT! If you live around Re:Lex at Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya, you can still make your way there to support them. Entrance fee is RM25, if not mistaken.

Bands that will be playing at That Awesome Gig tonight, besides Underheadlights, are Altered Frequency, Army of Three, Largest Rabbits On Tour, fourletterstory and Unabashed, none of which I have heard of to be honest but who cares? Music is music and it's up to us to appreciate their creation.

I understand that "That Awesome Gig" is in support of "dream village" but I have no idea what this is all about. I understand that it's a community project. Anyway, why are you still here? Make your way there before it's over at 9pm!

Jewelry Inheritance

My cousin, who recently inherited all of his mother's jewelry and those of our grandmother, has sought my advice if he should sell all of them and buy gold bullion instead. As a very sentimental person, I wonder if he should do that. These are the only keepsakes that his mother and grandmother have left him. Can he bring himself to do that?

Of course, that would be the practical thing to do. Gold jewelry, even though used and of older design can still command a good price. If I am not mistaken, if sold to a jewelry shop, one would get 70% of market value, which is still high based on today's price of gold in the world commodity market.

It would also be a very wise investment decision to make as gold bullion is one of the best ways to preserve "wealth". However, I told him that this is not a decision for me to make since I am not the owner. He is an adult already, even though he may still be in college, so it really is up to him alone what he wants to do.

Over & Done With: Autumn's Concerto [2009 Taiwanese Drama]

What a relief that I have finally finished watching the Taiwanese drama, Autumn's Concerto that stars Vanness Wu (F4) and Ady An. You know, I started watching this drama, with English subtitles in early June and it took me 2.5 months to finish the 21-episode long drama. Man, it felt like FOUR months!!

I don't know what happened to me, I just didn't have the enthusiasm for this drama even though I am normally a drama lover and would have no problems watching all sorts of dramas, even foreign language ones, with or without subtitles.

In this case, though, although I found the drama somewhat engaging, I just felt that the pace was far too slow, it was dragging. Of course, like all who have watched Autumn's Concerto, the highlight of the drama is actually the small boy who took on the character as Vanness Wu's 5-year-old son.

If you have watched the "behind the scenes" video clip, you can see that the boy is not only cute on screen, he is also cute normally.

Currently, I am watching TVB's Beauty of the Game, a drama about a couple of girls who are trying to make a name in the entertainment circle in Hong Kong. I'm at episode 5 now; the "action" doesn't seem to have started yet. How long will it take me to finish this drama?

Discount Blood Pressure Monitors

With three people in the family suffering from blood pressure currently successfully controlled by medication, my friend suggested that I buy a blood pressure monitor to keep at home. My parents and brother do get a monthly check up at the clinic but sometimes blood pressure fluctuates and it would be good to have a monitor handy without running to the clinic.

I have actually been looking for a low-priced blood pressure monitor for a few months now but the cheap ones don't look like they will last long! As luck would have it, this morning, I came across the website of Southeastern Medical Supply Inc. and am so happy to note their range of quality, easy-to-use health monitoring equipment from blood pressure cuffs to heart rate monitors to pulse oximeter devices, all selling at wholesale prices.

Of course, if I were to buy blood pressure monitors in bulk, it would be a lot cheaper. I do know of a few families that would benefit from having a blood pressure monitor at home. It looks like when we age, we cannot run away from hypertension! But even if I were to buy one only, I would still get to enjoy factory direct savings.

Oh yes, Southeastern Medical Supply Inc. runs monthly web specials on a limited number of products for even further savings!

Evergreen Engelbert Humperdinck

My father is busy playing Engelbert Humperdinck songs these few days after I transferred some of the tracks into the memory card of his new phone. Although I am a rock chick myself, loving Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, Scorpions and Linkin Park among others, I have to say that I am enjoy the music of Engelbert Humperdinck.

It's interesting to note that not many people know that the real name of Engelbert is Arnold George Dorsey, even people who love listening to his music. Of course, I'm not talking about those who would check out every other thing on the internet.

And although it is obvious that Engelbert Humperdinck has Indian blood in him, he has neither denied or admitted it, though he lists his parents as "British" but you know, only Indians have that kind of voice. LOL

Shopping For Costmetics & Perfumes Online

If you love to shop online, I am sure one of the main concerns is that you may not be buying authentic brand name items. It is especially true when it comes to skincare and make up products because using sub-par products could harm our skin instead of beautifying! As you can see, it is important to shop at reputable stores only.

If you love shopping for cosmetics and perfumes online, Clinique products are what I am currently using, by the way, then you should check out this premier brand name store, Whites East Hampton, that specializes in genuine brand name cosmetics and perfumes. This means that you don't only find Clinique makeup here but also products of other top brands that women love, from Bobbi Brown to Yves Saint Laurent to Shiseido to Clarins.

To me, Whites East Hampton, is like a "total care" online beauty store which means that this is a store where you can find beauty products for your entire body from haircare products to fragrances for both men and women.

One of the reasons I prefer to shop online for my beauty needs is the fact that I don't have the best of skin. I hate it when counter salesgirls make me feel ugly by pointing out the flaws on my skin. With Whites East Hampton, I don't have such worries as I can buy full ranges of Clinique and Estee lauder makeup if I wanted to!

Long Weekend But No Special Plans

The long weekend may have started yesterday, especially for people who are going to take Monday off. That's five long days for them. I really wanted to get away somewhere but when I think of the traffic jam, I shudder. But then again, I really have to be a good girl and not go anywhere for the time being because going away would mean spending money and right now, I really need to save for a desktop computer. It's giving me trouble and I hate it. SIGH! How long more can I endure the endless blue screens?

A friend is going away to Patong, Thailand to celebrate her 40th birthday. It's a milestone. She invited me to go along with her and a few of her friends but I declined. This really isn't a time to go to the beach because of the freakish weather. I didn't tell her so, of course. I just said that I will be busy. But like I said, I have to stay put so as not to incur additional expenses. I have already spent too much!

Mold Test For Possible Contamination

My friend saw a house that she wanted to buy but when she was taken into the house by the real estate agent, she felt that the air wasn't every fresh. She was afraid that it has mold contamination since she has a daughter who is asthmatic. As you know, mold contamination could cause a lot of heath problems besides causing or worsening asthma, allergies, headaches and migraines, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and a host of other illnesses.

I told my friend that it's very easy to detect mold. Of course, sometimes, mold cannot be detected visually but there are mold test kits like those being sold by ImmunoLytics. Knowing there is mold contamination, a homeowner would be able to take positive steps to counter the problem. ImmunoLytics are actually mold experts and they have made test for mold very easy and affordable that anyone with mold concerns could use.

What I like about the mold test by ImmunoLytics is that they not only confirm that an environment is contaminated with mold, like so many other products by other companies are doing because this is certainly not enough but test results also show us the kind of mold contamination one is faced with and the mold count. These information would enable us to take remediation steps that are effective and straight to the root of the moldy problem.

Extremely Tempted By Garmin Nuvi!

I was at PC Fair (II) Ipoh yesterday like I said I would go. Although there were many products aggressively promoted, very much like a higher end flea market, I had my eye on Garmin Nuvi only. Of course, there was the Garmin Asus M10 S3 smart phone but that didn't have a price tag on it and it probably is way too expensive for me.

Although I also didn't see any price tag on Garmin Nuvi, it's around RM999 the last time I saw it at PC Show, and also confirmed by a friend in KL who is currently using it. It is not going to be cheaper just because it was being sold in a "fair". The cheaper items are usually those that will be replaced by better technology products, not necessarily going obsolete soon, but just not the most advanced product in the market.

Anyway, for someone like me who would need to think of a purchase for a thousand times, I probably will end up not buying it because it is not really a necessity. Just a fancy device that would be good to have, a device that would be useful but not a device that I MUST have, if you know what I mean. Perhaps I will wait awhile more for the price to drop further.

Same Day STD Testing

I accompanied a friend to the gynecologist the other day and we were made to wait for a very, very long time. When the patient came out from the consultation room, my friend joked that the patient must have come for std testing.

If she really did, then it really is a pity because this could actually be done confidentially without having to go to a gynecologist yet. I could really sympathize with her the thoughts that go through her mind while waiting for a blood test report. Imagine the stress!

At National STD Testing, tests could be done swiftly with same day std testing. If one is clear of an infection, then well and good. Otherwise, supportive counselling will be provided to meet the needs of the individual patient and follow up treatment at a nearby clinic will be coordinated.

Besides STD, other blood tests could also be conducted if necessary to ensure that the health aspect of each individual is taken care of. Working closely with a network of reputable laboratories throughout the United States, National STD Testing is able to ensure that tests are carried out not only swiftly but accurately too. I personally feel that if one suspects an STD infection, he or she really should utilize the services of National STD Testing first before consulting a doctor. One should also read up on STD first before talking to a doctor.

Bone Density Scan

My mother is very sad after going for a "free" bone density scan at a nearby clinic. According to the girl who conducted the test, based on the scan results, my mother has failed the test and she is suffering from osteoporosis.

Two weeks ago, my mother underwent a similar bone density scan at another clinic and was said to have 80%+ level of bone density. Although the passing mark is 100%, her reading was considered good already, yet she bought the supplements that the company sold.

As you can imagine, my mother thought that with her 80%+ bone density coupled with two weeks of intensive supplements would boost her reading this time. And to be told that she failed the test! She came home and slept for two hours straight!

I told my mother that the machine, either one, is probably wrong. How could the results be so different in only two weeks? It can't be real? Whatever the case, know that all these bone density scans, while done for free, only has one underlying motive; to sell supplements! And my mother was one of those who were fearful enough of her bone density scan results to buy the supplements. I am sure she is not the only one!

What happens now? My mother will probably spend more and more money on such supplements and then go for another scan later to see if there is an improvement. SIGH!

Remodeling The Bathroom

I told my mother that I would like to remodel the bathroom. Actually, the bathroom needs an upgrade and besides, it will be a good idea to make it senior friendly. My mother is agreeable to the changes that I would like to make, except that she is against the idea of the small hot tub that I would like to install in the bathroom.

She said that I would have to spend more time and money to maintain it and I wouldn't even have time to enjoy the tub myself. It may be true that I wouldn't have that much time to indulge in a good soak but I like the idea of having a hot tub available when I need it.

It wouldn't really take up time to maintain it and hot tub covers aren't that expensive either. Oh, I don't know, perhaps I'll only install one when I have my own house. That's a dream!

It's PC Fair Today, Finally!!

Yes, PC fair is finally here in Ipoh beginning today until Sunday, 29th August, 2010. I am going to visit it later today and get some pictures. I will be looking at desktop computers, usually these are not on sale, and also monitors. I hope that I could pick up one, doesn't have to be the latest, most advance monitor. Just something basic will do.

And I will also be looking at laser printers. Yes, I still haven't bought one yet, even though I have been looking for one for the past 3 or 4 PC Fairs ago already! LOL I know, I'm cheap, my demands are extremely high and I still need to fork out some money to service my EPSON printer that is not working well currently.

And, I know I'm so greedy, I will be looking at netbooks. Yeah! Too bad that none of the entry level ones are good enough for me. I will need something with better specifications, a higher performance unit, but of course, these wouldn't be cheap enough. SIGH.

Oh well, let's see what they have at PC Fair Ipoh this time. It's usually a dumping ground though!

Online Military Degrees

My uncle doesn't understand why I have not yet started on my degree course even though I have promised to look into it a couple of years ago. I guess I just don't feel like I could cope with new commitments at this point. However, my uncle, who is an educationist, has stressed the importance of education.

Military personnel who are looking to improve themselves, no matter if they are seeking a career in the armed forces or if they are just serving the country for the minimum period, can enroll for one of the many online military degrees that are offered to them.

I understand that U.S. Military personnel enjoy various benefits, including education benefits, though some do not make use of these benefits but the good news is that some schools offer discounts on tuition fees for veterans and those who are still on active duty.

Frankly, after every lecture from my uncle, I feel quite ashamed of myself. Luckily, we don't get to meet that often!

Why Are Some People So Hateful?

I have a friend whom I am not exceptionally close with though I do keep in touch with him occasionally by text, online chat and even meet up about once or twice a year. And I found out that I don't like him at all.

Like I said in an earlier post that I am looking for a used desktop computer monitor so as to save some money on the new computer that I am planning to buy soon. So I asked this friend since he is someone who builds his own computer and may have some spare parts.

And you know what he replied? He said, "I do" and the next line he said something like, "but I donated it two weeks ago" so this basically means that he DOESN'T have it. Then why say that he has it in the first place. I don't care if he has donated it or sold it or if it broke down or if he is still using it. The fact is that he doesn't have a spare monitor at the present time so why can't he just say so?

And then there is another friend, who knows beforehand that I would be buying a Nokia E72 for my dad for his birthday. After I bought it, he asked me if I had bought it and I said I had. he asked me how much I bought it for and I replied, RM1099 and he said, "Aiya, I could have bought it cheaper."

Why the hell didn't he say so in the first place so that I wouldn't have to pay RM1099 for it? Why must he tell me after the fact? What is the point he tried to prove and why even tell me? I was very pissed off, of course, and he said that he doesn't understand why I was angry. Of course I was, anyone would!

Baseball Gloves for Serious Players

My friend told me that his son is so active in baseball, he has a difficult time catching up with him just replacing his sports equipment because they break down too fast.

I told him that perhaps he should take the kid seriously and buy him Baseball Gloves and equipment of better quality. What is wrong with buying something that may cost more but is more durable? It's not as if the price difference is so huge from what I could see. The youth baseball gloves available from Kid Sports Inc. are within reach of many parents, I am sure, even those that professional players wear.

I love it that Kid Sports Inc. do not only carry baseball gloves for youths but also other baseball equipment and training gear for serious youth baseball players so that when one shops with them, he could basically pick up everything that a baseball player would need, from gloves to bats to balls to pitching and fielding sets which are suitable for people who play baseball for fun or for serious baseball players who need their equipment for baseball practice.

Currently, the company is running a spring specials. You may want to check out the items on offer and pick something up at a discount!

The Matta Perak Travel Fair 2010 (MPTF 2010)

If you are like me and look forward to Matta Fair two times a year, then the good news is that they are back. The Perak Chapter will be organising one from 3rd to 5th September, 2010 and it will be held at Dewan Leong Wan Chin at SMJK Perempuan, Ipoh in Jalan Kampar, Ipoh. Time is from 10am to 10pm daily for these three days.

I don't know if we have to pay an entrance fee or even how much it would be. A travel fair that i visited recently in Kuala Lumpur imposed an RM3 entrance fee on adults and yet, it was full house on the day that I went. Children below the age of 12 and senior citizens above the age of 58 get to enter for free, though.

As usual, I expect the venue to be packed, pay or not. It's too bad that the venue is too far away from my home unlike previous fairs so maybe I will have to get someone to go along with me since I don't drive as competently as I should. LOL Still, I'm interested to see what kind of travel deals are available.

Keeping Kids Occupied With Sports

My aunt came to me the other day and told me worriedly that she is afraid that her son is mixing with bad company. She said that he's spending a lot of time at snooker joints and she is afraid that he would pick up smoking and drinking through bad influence.

I gave her an idea to introduce him to sports. I know that kids love to be in the in-crowd and she should get him to be interested in sports, like baseball, for example, by buying him Baseball Equipment suitable for kids his age group so that he could join the cool kids in school for games.

Youth sports sets are inexpensive and it is worth buying as gifts even if there is no special occasion. We don't need to wait for birthdays and Christmases to give a kid a gift, especially when it is meant to cultivate a healthy interest.

I have browsed through the website of Kid Sports Inc. and will let my aunt know that if her son doesn't like baseball, perhaps she could try to introduce him to other sports, like soccer or football. These are all team sports so he would definitely have the chance to get to know more people his age.

Mario Lanza, the Great Tenor

I was helping my father fill up the memory card of his mobile phone and one of the singers that he requested was Mario Lanza. My father and sister are great fans of Mario Lanza but because he died young, at the age of only 38, there are not many of his recordings around.

Whilst chatting with a friend by phone text, I told him that I am listening to a lot of old Mario Lanza tracks and he asked, "WHAT is that?" LOL What an insult to fans of Mario Lanza! So I shared some of Mario Lanza music with him and he said that he doesn't like that.

This friend listen to a lot of music and have a lot of friends in the music and entertainment industry locally and yet, he has never heard of Mario Lanza before. Mario is an inspiration to a lot of today's tenors, from Placido Domingo to Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti. So for anyone who loves to listen to these singers, they really should go back to the "roots" so to say.

Backyard Soccer

Almost all my friends who drop by my house and even strangers who stroll past my house would not fail to comment that I have a large backyard. It's true and I am very proud of the space that I have, thanks to my parents who had the foresight to buy such a house, old but very spacious.

If we have children living with us, we would surely set up basketball and Soccer Nets for the children to play in the evenings. I can just envision the neighborhood kids coming together for a game of junior basketball or soccer every weekend.

Soccer goals are very easy to set up because they are portable and foldable so they don't think up much space at all and could be kept away if not in used. These soccer goals come in a few sizes so they would fit in almost any backyard, large or small.

Also, soccer nets are very affordable these days and worth to invest in especially to attract children to get some fresh air outdoor and keep away from computers, TVs and game consoles. Children would definitely love getting some fun with their friends and parents would have peace of mind knowing their kids are just playing in their own backyard.

Looking For A Used Computer Monitor

I have requested for a quotation from a few computer shops over the past couple of days and am still waiting for news from one computer shop. After going one round, I found that computer parts are almost priced the same and the difference in price is very slight. Only thing is that I'll have to press them to lower their service charges.

And I've been thinking, though, that if I could get a used computer monitor from a friend, then I could save at least RM300 - RM400, which is a lot of money considering that it makes up about 25% - 33% of the total cost of a new CPU. Anyway, the monitor is not that urgent since I do have a working monitor with me which I bought about a year ago and is still working fine. TOUCH WOOD!!!

Anyway, I really can't decide when to buy and whom to buy from because besides asking for cheap, I am looking for excellent customer service as well and I can't say that I am getting that from any of the computer shops that I have been frequenting over the past few years. Gah!

For NFL Junior Fans

My friend invited me to her son's birthday. When we first knew each other, her son was only two years old. I can't believe how time flies seeing how much he has grown. I haven't decided if I will be attending his birthday since it's quite a long travel but as the Chinese say, even if I do not arrive, the gift has to.

I actually have no idea what boys like to receive for their birthdays but I recently found out that he's a great NFL fan. I think it would be a good idea to get him NFL Merchandise since I don't think his parents would indulge in him as they would rather buy study material for him but a boy surely needs time off from books, right?

I have known of Fan Shop Inc. for a long time and have been looking forward to an opportunity to buy one of their NFL uniform sets which I think all children who are fans of NFL would love to own. Luckily, these uniform sets are very affordable, from US$39.99 per set only and we have the option to buy shoulder pads separately.

Anyway, it's time find out which team the boy likes he most. He'd appreciate his gift even more.

Addicted To Social Games

My friends asked me why I play so many social games on Facebook. They even, rudely, asked if I have a "life". Well, of course I do but does that mean that I can't spend a little time (OK, I admit, I do spend too much time) on social games? I know that I am addicted to games like Mafia Wars, Treasure Isle and Restaurant City so even though I do play a variety of games, there are only a handful that I would play daily.

Even so, it is very rude to say that just because I play games online, I have no "life". I spend a lot of time connected to the internet and playing games is just one of the things I do, and I could play whilst doing something serious at the same time. After all, for most text based online games, it's just a matter of a few mouse clicks. You wouldn't believe, though, the rate that I kill my computer mouse. LOL

In any case, every one has his on ways to spend his leisure time, whether it's playing online games like me or to go clubbing, trekking or whatever. And I stress that even though I play, I do have a life. Previously, I didn't have a life because I was too busy caring for my sick dogs but now times have changed!

Luxury Bedding For A Good Night's Rest

I do not get to spend a lot of time in bed at night so I always look forward to sleeping in comfort. I don't believe in the number of hours spent in bed but the quality of it. These past few months, I have been thinking of redecorating my bedroom and buy myself a luxurious bed. I have been working hard feel that I deserve the nightly pamper! LOL

A friend told me about the Luxury bedding on the website of Versai and I have to say that after browsing through the bedroom products available, I feel as if I want to get one nice and comfy bed at once! These beds look like they are from the suites of 6-star hotels!

Having a luxury bed isn't enough, of course. I would also need matching Luxury sheets and Luxury linens. Before I even buy these, I already feel like I would be spending the whole week in bed and not want to get up for work! Yes, that's how inviting a luxurious bed is for me.

What is surprising to me is that although these beds and bedroom sheets and linens are so classy looking, their prices are not too expensive at all. I would say they are affordable to most people. The only problem is which style to choose since there are so many different designs to choose from at Versai.

Email Not Coming In To Gmail

It's strange. I rcently accused one company of not sending me an email after waiting for almost a week. I had to call up again to ask them to resend and I thought their service was pretty shoddy.

And then today, when I was expecting to receive a number of email from one company, only one managed to come through, the rest did not arrive. If this happened one time, I really would have thought that it's the sender's fault but now, with this happening two times, I really have to wonder if it's Gmail's fault. Is it?

I know that we cannot depend on technology 100% but when important email that is supposed to arrive did not, it's quite disconcerting. Imagine all the missed opportunities, if any! All the money earned less too. LOL

Discount Lighting Fixtures From Echo Lighting Design Gallery

My neighbor just moved into her new house next door to mine after spending a lot of time and a small fortune decorating her home. I was invited for a visit was blown away by the home lighting fixtures that she installed. However, when she told me the price, I nearly fainted.

Echo Lighting Design Gallery has an excellent range of lighting fixtures at discount prices. I felt it was a pity that she didn't ask me prior to shopping for her fixtures or I would have recommended her this company. Whatever she bought are also available at Echo Lighting Design Gallery at a fraction of the price.

I have actually been looking at kitchen light fixtures offered by Echo Lighting Design Gallery and the reason that I have yet to make my purchase is because I couldn't decide which one to buy. Would pendant light fixtures look good in the kitchen or are they too elaborate?

I would say that Echo Lighting Design Gallery is a lighting specialist that takes care of lighting for the entire house from the interior to the exterior. In addition to the discounted prices, shoppers get to enjoy free shipping on orders above US$250 which translates to even further savings!

If you are looking for new light fixtures, look no further than Echo Lighting Design Gallery for their extensive range of lighting products.

Sampuru

These past couple of years, I have been very fascinated with the fake food that are displayed outside Japanese and Korean business. I think that this trend only became popular these past couple of years, right? At least, I don't believe I noticed anything like this in Ipoh previously.

Anyway, I recently learned that these fake food are called sampuru which means "sample" in Japanese. I thought that these food were made with clay but they are actually made with plastic and silicon.

Did you know, the business of making sampuru is actually a huge multi-million Yen business? I think all Japanese restaurants must now have these fake food displayed to show diners what they are going to get since a lot of us don't read Japanese and I think it's an excellent idea.

I hope that one day when I have my own home, I would like to have my own collection of sampuru. Hehehe... I'm a weird collector, aren't I?

Career In Accounting

A distant cousin recently graduated as an accountant and has been looking for a job. From what I see, she doesn't really mind where she works as long as she is able to secure a job.

This morning, I got to know that there are Accounting jobs Pennsylvania that she could apply for. It may be difficult to secure due to the fact that MaherDuessel Certified Public Accountants is a much sought after employer with Pittsburgh Business Times nominating it as one of The Best Places to Work, but she'll never know without trying, right? I have browsed through the website and they have a special career center for people seeking CPA careers or internship positions with the company.

If you have not heard of MaherDuessel Certified Public Accountants, it is a regional public accountancy firm that offers Government and Non-profit accounting and consultation services. In fact, MaherDuessel Certified Public Accountants is one of the very few private firms that not only offer services to charities in and around Pennsylvania but also financial donation and time.

I hope that my cousin would be able to secure a job with MaherDuessel Certified Public Accountants. They certainly look like a company that cares for the welfare of their employees and the community.

La Manila @ MidValley Megamall

When I visited MidValley Megamall for one afternoon last week, my friend introduced me to La Manila. For those who are unfamiliar with it, it's actually a cake shop which once could dine in. My friend ordered a slice of cherry cake and it came with a cup of tea (or coffee) and the bill came up to almost RM9! Imagine, just a slice of cake and drink!

I have to say though, that the cake was so "solid" and so rich. The icing alone was almost 1cm thick! And the cherries are large, not just specks of cherries that we normally get from other cake shops. LOL You can see how rich it is looking at this photo but sorry for the quality. It was taken with my iPhone.

My friend ate most of the cake but I did take some just to try it since there is no La Manila in Ipoh as far as I know. Still, such a cake is too rich for me. I normally don't take the icing anyway, and it would be a waste to scrap it off this cake. Besides, it was close to dinner time already and I didn't want to fill my stomach with a slice of cake only!

Fuel-Saving Mercruiser Engines

Having just bought a car, and then experience an increase in fuel price soon after, I can surely feel the pinch to my budget. I have a friend, who owns a medium-sized boat, which he use to make a living from, who told me that because of the high fuel price, he is looking for a Boat engine that would save on fuel, and hence, money.

I have read about U.S. Engines Inc's Mercruiser engines which I think would suit his needs very well. These engines are guaranteed to save on fuel and even so, gives better horsepower and torque. People who know about boats know how important these factors are.

In addition to these, U.S. Engine Inc. offers 7 years (or 500 hours) Marine engine warranty which is something boat owners seeking long lasting quality would be happy with. My friend agrees that it's quality that he is looking for and is more than happy that with U.S. Engine Inc, he gets to enjoy the quality and technology without having to pay premium price for the Marine engine that he is eying.

U.S. Engines will ship orders to all 50 states in the US quickly and afford-ably so that boat owners can get their boats back in the water as soon as possible.

PC Fair (Ipoh) Is Coming Again

Right, despite being one of the largest cities in the country, we have to get PIKOM PC Fair after every one has had theirs. Why? Because MBI wanted to use the venue for their own PC Show. LOL

Anyway, PC Fair will be held from 27th August, 2010 over three days at Stadium Indera Mulia (indoor stadium). It's the usual place and of course I will be making my way to it. I am going to look for desktop computers this time, though in my heart, I really would like to be looking at netbooks instead. It would be great if I have the budget to buy both but then I am too practical for my own good and even if I could afford, I wouldn't!

In any case, I would still be looking to see what new technology will be brought in but when it comes to IT fairs like these, it's usually a venue for vendors to dump their stocks of older technology, before they start selling their newer technology stocks, and those would be sold at a premium price. Bah!!

Tour To Israel

Where I come from, only a select few would have the privilege to visit Israel. As a "free and easy" traveler without a specific place to visit, I would like to one day participate in an Israel Tour, when there is no longer an issue with my passport.

I came across the website of Ayelet Tours this morning, yes I know I have been browsing too many holiday websites I think I have caught the travel bug, I am delighted to see that Tour to Israel isn't as far-fetched as it once was.

Ayelet offers different types of tours to Israel from family tours covering cities like Jerusalem, Kibbutz and Tel Aviv to Israel highlights tour for the busy traveler who is not able to spend too many days sightseeing; still he would be able to visit important tourist spots like the Sea of Galilee, Tiberias and Nazareth in a tour that traces the history and heritage of the country we now know as Israel.

Bar or (Bat) Mitzvah is a very important day for Jewish children. It signifies adulthood for these children like a "rite of passage" and they are now fully responsible of their own actions under Jewish Law. Some parents love going for Bar mitzvah tours Israel with their coming-of-age child and in such tours conducted by Ayelet, the child will receive a free land tour of Israel. What a gift!

Going on an Israel tour is very significant to Jewish people; it's like going back to their roots. But this doesn't mean that only they could enjoy the beauty that the country has to offer, right?

Downgrading To Win XP

I have requested for quotations from a few reputable computer stores in Ipoh and although it's not exceptionally expensive since I am only asking for a moderate system, I don't feel like I should fork out the money for it because my current computer is still working fine, except that it cannot run smoothly on Windows 7.

I have decided that no matter if I purchase a new system or not, now or perhaps later, I would still have to make this system run smoothly since if I were to purchase a new one, I would like my parents to have this.

So it looks like afterwards, I will be sending my computer to the workshop again. I hope to get it back by evening so that I could use it at night. Since I run my PC throughout the night, I really don't want to have to put on my laptop instead. It will be too taxing for it. SIGH... computer woes again!

Top Quality Bunk Beds

When I was a kid, I loved bunk beds. I didn't have one but my cousins had twin bunk beds, and I spent all my school holidays with them, always asking to be put in the upper bunk. I don't know why I was so fascinated by bunk beds, perhaps it was the stairs or perhaps it was the fun sleeping so far off the ground, but I can say that even though I am now an adult, when I have my own home, I plan on getting bunk beds for the guest room!

If you are in the market for bunk beds, you should take a look at Mom's Bunk House where you will find a wide range of bunk beds for sale at very competitive prices. At Mom's Bunk House, you can be sure to get top quality products solid bunk beds wood construction without paying top dollar.

Whether you are looking for a wood bunk bed with honey or white finish, Mom's Bunk House has what you require. I like the fact that their stock is readily available and they are warehoused locally so you don't have to wait for days before your order is processed.

If you look at the kids bunk beds at Mom's Bunk House, you would surely appreciate the detailed craftsmanship that has been put into each bed. Mom's know what people want in their bunk beds, especially space and storage, and have taken time to design bunk beds that would meet our requirements and expectations.

For our guest room I would like a twin over a double bed. Of course, bedrooms can't have just beds, so if you are looking for matching bedroom sets, Mom's Bunk House also offers dressers, nightstands and desks to compliment their bunk beds.

I May Need A New Desktop PC

I'm sad. Of course, if money is not involved, I'm NOT sad. LOL You see, I just bought a new Nokia E72 for my dad for his birthday present, which he promptly gave to my brother to use. What sort of ungratefulness is that you tell me? So never mind, I'll close one eye.

In my previous post, I mentioned that there are three items on my wishlist that I really want; a Sony Vaio X Series netbook, a Samsung Dual View digital camera and a Garmin Nuvi GPS device. I really want these, though my friend advised me not to get the Sony Vaio X or the Garmin Nuvi GPS since I hardly travel or even drive and that buying a Samsung Galaxy X phone in place of these two items would suffice. And instead of buying the Samsung Dual View digital camera, I could just stick a small mirror on the camera that I am currently using. I know some people are doing so but me?? No way!

Anyway, before I could work down my wishlist, I think I have to get myself a new desktop. I just can't point my finger on the problem but it has been so since I was forced to upgrade my desktop to run on Windows 7, from Windows XP. Maybe my machine is too old. Whatever it is, I wish I could have a new desktop. I could certainly do away with the frustrations of using my current system.

Putting A Professional Touch To Home Videos With After Effects Animation

If you have been following my blog, you would know that I am a budding videographer who is never happy with my videos, and I am even more dissatisfied with the post production part of it, after the filming has been done. When I upload to YouTube and do not get the viewership I long for, I get disappointed.

I checked out Revostock.com earlier today to see if I could find suitable footage or a stock video clip that I could use for my video. RevoStock has a wide selection of stock video clips to choose from at an affordable price.

I have to say that RevoStock's after effects and stock videos are of excellent quality that anyone in the video graphic design field can use. I tell you, people who like to shoot amateur videos would certainly see an increase in quality in their videos if Stock footage from RevoStock is incorporated in their videos.

Like I said, professional stock videos for sale on RevoStock are certainly affordable, with prices starting from $5 and if you have a huge video project going on or you are working on a few small ones simultaneously, perhaps you would be more interested to purchase a product bundle. The good news is that currently, all product bundles, which may include high resolution video files and audio files, are sold at a discount of up to 50%. This will certainly save you a lot of money.

Honestly, people who are serious about producing high quality video clips, whether it's a commercial or just something for their website or even personal blog, should take a look at the extensive selection of stock media available on RevoStock, from motion graphics after effects, music and sound effects, backgrounds, animations and more in multiple file formats.

My Wishlist

If you know me, or understand me from reading my blog, you would know that I am a no-frills person. I don't really like excessive stuff, not especially when they are expensive. And if you know me, I am someone who would use whatever I have until they die on me and not replace them whilst they are still working fine.

However, recently, I have been eyeing something that I would really like to have. One is the Sony X lightweight carbon fibre 11in screen laptop. Yay! It's selling at RM4000 currently and if I buy extended warranty, it will be another RM500 +/-.

And then there is the Samsung Dual View camera. Two new models of this Dual View series will be out soon and I don't know yet what price they will retail at. Possible around RM1000 or more. And the third item that I would really like to have is the Garmin Nuvi GPS device. It's selling at RM999 currently, expensive though it has already dropped a lot since its release.

As you can see, there are only three items on my wish list yet all three would cost me a total of RM7000 +/-. My friend advised me to just get an Android powered Samsung Galaxy S but I don't need yet another mobile phone. It's more than a mobile phone, he says.

But like I said, I don't want to spend. If you have seen how high the Ringgit has risen lately, you would understand. Besides, the desperate purchases are not these three. My desktop computer and printer are screaming for attention already and I am trying to delay as long as I could.

Getting Started With Greenhouse Kits

We have a large lawn and many random people who walked past our house have often wondered aloud why we do not have a greenhouse. Our lawn could certainly accommodate one! Actually, I have always wanted a greenhouse but have not done anything about it because of time constraints and besides, couldn't find any that appeals to me, until I came across Gothic Arch Greenhouses.

If you are looking for greenhouses, you really should drop by the website of Gothic Arch Greenhouses. You will surely be blown away by the variety of greenhouses available, be it hobby greenhouses or commercial, institutional or international.

Whether you are an old hand or a newbie, Gothic Arch Greenhouses can help you with the design of the greenhouse to meet your specific requirements. It doesn't matter if it's a large commercial greenhouse project or just a small hobby greenhouse for your backyard, Gothic Arch Greenhouses approach every design with a personal, yet professional touch, paying careful attention to incorporate your ideas into each design. If you require a greenhouse builder, Gothic Arch Greenhouses could put you in touch with one too.

One thing I like about the company is that they ensure that homeowners' greenhouses will not end up as white elephants in the backyard. They don't just sell Greenhouse Kits but really take the trouble to explain what are required build the greenhouse, not only in terms of cost but also environment factors and the Greenhouse Supplies required.

Starting From Zero Again

It has been more than two weeks since I drove. Yes, again. Long breaks like these are certainly bad for the re-learner. This is the the third long break for me since I purchased the toy car. Like I said, I am definitely not a "driver" but a passenger and sometimes, I just wish I don't have to drive but I know that would not be practical nor will it be convenient when I no longer have my personal "driver".

My father says that the more I learn, the more regressive I get but I think that the more he nags at me sitting by my side, the more mistakes I make. And it makes me wonder, why, the time that I went on the road by myself, I made some mistakes too. Hehehe!

And you know, I feel extremely dumb when my neighbour, a lady who is crippled, can drive a normal car. She learned when she was already in her 30s and yet do not face the kind of handling problems that I am facing. I feel so stupid. :(

More Than Just Electric Motors

My friend, who has just started his own business, asked me if I would be able to help him look for power transmission and fluid power products. I didn't ask him for the specific products that he is looking for since I wouldn't have a clue but I did ask him to check the website of Fremont Industrial Supply, Inc. With over 12,000 products by more than 50 manufacturers, they surely would have what my friend wants!

I like the fact that even if a customer is not able to look for the item that he wants specifically, he could just call up the company to ask. It probably is in the inventory, just not listed online yet. This kind of personal touch is highly appreciated in online purchases. With over 36 years experience as a distributor of top quality power transmission and fluid power products, Fremont Industrial Supply, Inc. surely knows the needs of customers.

If you have a need for high quality industrial products from Hydraulic rams to pumps and valves or maybe Compressed air dryer or gear reducers you should start your search with Fremont Industrial Supply, Inc. With the number of products they carry, not just Electric motors, I believe this is where your search ends too. Where else would you find so many products under one virtual roof and at very reasonable prices too?

Yes, I Was At MOFEW

Yes, I went to MOFEW last week on the first day of the event. It was a Friday and I took the train at 4.40am from Ipoh to KL Sentral and instead of returning to Ipoh on the same night on the 9.45pm train, decided to switch to ETS new electric train service instead earlier in the evening. It had been a thoroughly long day!

MOFEW, though not as huge as I had anticipated it to be reading the many articles about the event, wasn't a disappointment at all. I travelled from Ipoh but I understand that some visitors even came from neighbouring countries like Thailand, Singapore and Brunei.

Although I didn't get to spend a lot of time at MOFEW, I still managed to get what I wanted from my visit. My day trip, though hectic, wasn't in vain or wasted.

Jeans Person

My friend commented that he has never seen me in a skirt before. I didn't realize it but now that he mentioned it, I remember ditching skirts once I left school! It's not that I am a tomboy; I just find wearing pants, especially jeans, more comfortable and convenient, since I am always moving about.

According to my friend, girls are lucky to have so many options in the way they dress, but guys always have to be in pants only. How many guys are as brave as Zang Toi, right? But I counter him saying that even in something simple as jeans, there are many different cuttings and colors. Just take a look at the original Levis 501 jeans. They come in black, stonewashed, rinsed and new metal.

If he is someone who likes slim straight cut, he could go for Levis 514 jeans. These come in four different colors from ash grey to overhaul to tumbled black and tumbled rigid. As you can see, there really are many colors and cuttings to choose from to suit the mood and occasion.

I remember the days when the jeans we knew back then were like medium stonewashed levis 505 jeans. And oh yes, we now also have regular zip and button fly jeans!

Is RM30 Fare For Ipoh - KL Electric Train Too Expensive?

A lot of people have asked me, after learning that I travelled on the electric train on the second day that the service was launched from KL Sentral to Ipoh, if RM30 was expensive. As you know, this is a promotional fare and ETS, the subsidiary of KTM, has threatened us that the real fare, once this 6-month promotional period is over, will be closer to RM50.

Whether it is expensive or not depends on a traveller's own budget, of course. I have taken economy seats at RM12, superior seats at RM22, first class at RM40 and also RM30 for the electric train.

So compared to economy class, RM30 is surely expensive. Compared to Superior class, it is "only" RM8 more expensive, which a lot of people don't mind spending on a cup of coffee. But if you compare it to First class, RM30 is so much cheaper!

Pricing is of course a very sensitive issue. Many people asked me what services were on board. On the second day of the service when I rode on the train, there was only food sold at the food bar. There were two toilets. Other than these, there were no wi-fi connectivity or power point plugs.

But the main advantage taking the electric train compared to the diesel-powered train is the speed. My trip from KL Sentral to Ipoh was approximately 55 minutes faster. It's not a lot when you think of it but if the fare is RM30, it is still OK. More than that, it's no longer worth it, in my opinion.

Shocking Family Secret

About six months ago, I discovered a really shocking secret that involved my uncle, his wife and their son. Well, maybe the son (my cousin) isn't involved. My family (I told them) is totally shocked that they could keep this a secret for more than 20 years, and they still think that none of us knows what's going on. This isn't a dark secret that one could close a door on. I personally think that it would only get harder to hide as time goes by.

After six months, I am still very puzzled about this issue. I am not a private detective so there are documents and departments that I do not have access to but I am so, so curious that I had thought of hiring one to solve this case for me. It's not that I wish to bring the downfall of my uncle, a fairly prominent figure hence his desire to hide, I just wish to know the truth about this secret for my own sake.

When I came across the website of these Private Detectives Atlanta, I am reminded of this secret again. I was about to give up when I couldn't find a suitable private detective. I didn't want investigations to be obtrusive. As I said, it's just for my own knowledge.

These Silent Partner PIs are definitely whom I need. They are "old school" detectives with combined experience of over a hundred years. I have a feeling that they would solve my case in less than a day. LOL

CAPDASE Soft Jacket 2 Xpose For Nokia E72

I bought a Nokia E72 Navi or RM1099 for my dad for his birthday earlier this month. Had to charge my credit card, boohoo! My Ipoh friend who works in Penang who also owns an E72, asked me to get a case for the phone like his. He said the brand is CAPDASE from Hong Kong.

I searched Ipoh and couldn't find it selling anywhere so this guy offered to purchase it on my behalf at Queensbay Mall and pass the item to me when he comes home. However, he didn't come home this week and had to pass the case to his colleague, who is also from Ipoh, who coincidentally lives just 5 minutes' away from my house.

This afternoon, I went over to pick it up. The case is very nice and fits the phone perfectly. I am lazy to shoot a photo of it and decided to just grab the stock photo from the website of CAPDASE. You know, for RM38, it's not expensive but they even include a screen protector, which means that it's even cheaper. I haven't paid my friend, though and will only pass him the money when we meet up.

I remember when I just bought my Nokia E61i, I had to purchase three pieces of screen protectors. If not mistaken, I paid a total of RM70 or so just for them!! I couldn't afford a jacket or sleeve for it. An original Nokia leather casing was selling more than RM100! Duh!!

Popularity of Precious Metals

I joined a few of my new acquaintances yesterday when I made a day trip to the capital city. When we were talking about investments, someone mentioned that she is looking to buy gold bullion. if you have been following the market, you would know that the price of gold has risen tremendously over the past few years but has undergone slight correction these few months.

Shrewd investors like her know that gold is something that is valuable and sustains wealth, unlike paper currency. She said that she doesn't mind that the price of gold may go down slightly after her purchase since prices fluctuate all the time but then she is in for the long term and is confident that the price still have room to rise further. Let's keep an eye on it.

In For The Next Three Days

I will be staying home and be a good girl and put my head down to clear up all the work that has piled up over the past few months. As you know, I have been naughty and travelled from Sungai Petani right down to Sentosa Island and nearly even crossed over to Indonesia through Kukup's International Ferry Terminal.

Even with three days, I will only be able to do the important stuff since these are are things that piled up when Snoopy was so ill he was bed-ridden for 7.5 months and then died. You know, I just didn't have the mind do do anything other than the necessary and then I was depressed for sometime and then my aunt died suddenly and I was again depressed.

I am someone who gets affected by negativity very easily. I know it's best to keep things, especially negative issues that affect me emotionally at arm's length but I never learn. Anyway, am not going to push myself. If I had procrastinated for over a year, it means that they are not very important in the first place but I would like to get them out of the way sooner than later.

Looking For Work In KL

When I was in KL, by chance I came upon a few businesses that were looking for staff from clinic nurses to sales girls. So I went in and tried to secure a job but upon finding out that I am just a high school graduate, and that was aeons ago, and do not at least have a diploma in my name, they say they couldn't hire me.

Oh well, I was just trying my luck since I didn't even take along my certificates but I felt that I should tell them the truth so as not to waste each other's time. But the experience has reminded me that I really should start upgrading myself.

Attending conventional classes no longer appeal to me since I have left school so many years ago. I wouldn't be able to follow a regimented routine. I guess I will have to start researching on Online Schools more actively and just sign up for a course that appeals to me the most.

For all the time and money I spent traveling these past months, I should have used them on self-improvement!

Back From KL

Yes, I am back from my day trip to KL where I only spent time in Brickfields where KL Sentral and MidValley Megamall are located. LOL... still, my friend and I were nearly caught in the bad traffic jam and I nearly missed my train ride home to Ipoh.

I managed to ride in the electric train from KL Sentral and Ipoh and I have to say it was not an earth shattering experience. My, are my expectations high!! But still, it was an experience which I will blog about once I have downloaded the photos.

So when will my next trip be and where would I be going? I have an appointment in KL in September, which I will also try to make it a day trip to cut down on my travelling expenses and then I hope to make the Penang trip with my family. It's gonna cost me a few hundred bucks there. No... I really shouldn't measure spending quality time with my family with money.

Buying Precious Metal

Although I have been reading up on investing in precious metals lately, I haven't actually started to invest. So when my friend asked me for my opinion as he too would like to expand his investment portfolio and precious metal is one he is keen on, I dare not give him an opinion just in case he blames me should he lose money. Let's face it. Even with the bullish precious metal market right now, any form of investment carries a certain degree of risk.

I told him that he should seek professional advise and United States Gold Bureau is one of the companies that could help him gain entry into the precious metal market. I believe that my friend would find all the information he requires through US Gold Bureau that would help him make an informed decision on his venture into precious metals.

Driving Mistakes

I have owned my toy car for about three months now and although I did not drive it daily and even sometimes skipped driving for up to two weeks one stretch, I think that I should be competent enough to drive after all the training. However, to my dismay and chagrin, I am still making mistakes after mistakes.

My father doesn't understand why I just can't get the hang of it. He's been driving for years and take driving as something that's natural. He knows what to do in any driving or road condition while I need him to be by my side to guide me. However, at the same time, with him nagging me and even doubting me, I commit even more errors in my driving.

Sometimes, my father would say that if I don't want to learn, I might as well just sell the car off. What? At a loss? Why can't I own it even though I may drive clumsily? My dad wonders why I don't want to learn. I do want to learn but what can I do when apparently, I inherited my mom's poor judgment and co-ordination?

Anyway, a good friend has been very encouraging and told me that all I need is more practice. I wish he is right. I wonder if I will ever "graduate" from my dad's school of driving.

Being Unproductive Again

I have been playing so many different games on Facebook lately again without actually realizing it until a friend sent me a message to be more productive and not spend the whole day playing games and posting game alerts to spam his newsfeed. Major OOPS!

I tell you, Facebook games can be so addictive and I could spend a lot of time playing it. I feel very guilty when friends tell me what they have been up to throughout the day and all I could say that I have leveled up this game character, planted this crop or cooked that dish. LOL

I don't know why, maybe I am still in a depressive mood because of my aunt's sudden demise a couple of weeks ago. Imagine, I was not even close to her but I guess it drove home the message that we should take better care of our health. Also, it reminds me that my parents are no longer young. I AM NO LONGER YOUNG. And I have so many things still undone.

I guess I just need to give myself time to get over this and then I would start being aggressive at my work again. It happened when Dino died suddenly. It happened with Snoopy died after a long bout of being bed ridden. I am just someone who doesn't take these things well, even though it may be expected already.

Buying Employee Insurance

I have a friend who runs a restaurant whom I am trying to advise him to purchase staff insurance as well as public liability insurance. I am sure you would have read about accidents happening in eateries, whether to the staff or public.

Although the locals, and worse, the foreigners workers that the employs, may not be very well versed with the law, especially personal injury law, if he was in the West, and running his business without insurance, he better pray that no accident ever happens because he will be sued.

If the injured party has a good Texas personal injury attorney, then he could say farewell to whatever money that he has made through his business over the years. Would this be worth it? I don't think so.

I hope that my friend will listen to my advise, given out of concern, and not that I would be getting any benefit from introducing him to insurance agents!

Killing Yet Another Computer Mouse

I think I play too many computer games as I have once again killed my mouse; this time the victim is the small mouse that I use with my laptop. Granted, I have been using this mouse since I bought my laptop, which was slightly more than two years ago but it is only recently that I have been using it more frequently after experiencing problems with my desktop computer.

It's really bad timing to have the mouse die on me because PC Show has just ended which means that I would have to wait till PC Fair comes to Ipoh which will be at the end of August. What joke is it that Ipoh, being a fairly large city, will be the last city for PIKOM to hold their PC Fair in?

Anyway, I remember one lady, the sales person who sold me my laptop, commented that she always sees me buying mouse only during PC Fairs. At the rate I am killing them, this PC Fair, I will be buying a few to standby at home!

Can Somebody Confirm the Launch Date Of ETS?

So I have been reading the papers and have received conflicting reports on the launch date of ETS Electric Train Services and The Star says that it's today while Ipoh Echo says that it's on Thursday. I even personally went to the KTM station in Ipoh and the Station Master told me that it's 12th. He even told me not to believe the papers!

After going to KTM Ipoh a few times this month alone, I am not going to check on the ETS today or tomorrow. I will be boarding the train on Friday, anyway, and have no choice but to take the diesel engine train which will take 2 hours and 55 minutes to arrive.

Even if I do have the option to choose, the fare of electric train to KL Sentral from Ipoh is RM30 while the Economy Class diesel engine train is only RM12. First class is RM22. The difference in fare may not seem much but comparing economy class diesel and electric train, it is RM18. That's enough for a meal in KL already with change for LRT.

Gold Is Still IN

My friend told me that her mother is asking her for a considerable sum of money as she wants to buy gold. My friend is not sure if she should allow her mother to do so. To me, especially after the recent sudden demise of my aunt, my dad's younger sister, at 64 years old, if the folks would like to do something, I would allow them to do so, if I could afford it. You can say that I indulge them but then life's so short.

I am not sure if my friend's mother is going for gold coins, bars or jewelry. Whatever she is buying, gold is an ageless commodity. The price in the world market may fluctuate now and then but the value of gold has been maintained throughout generations.

I have no idea how much she wants to invest in but I told my friend that if she could afford it, why not? After all, whatever the mother buys now will eventually go to her, right?

KTM Electric Train Service (ETS) Scheduled To Launch 12th Aug 2010

The long awaited electric train service that plies Ipoh-KL-Seremban, is expected to launch on 12th August, 2010. I will be travelling to KL on 13th but I have already bought my tickets because I am not holding my breath for it to launch, having experienced delays since April of this year.

There will be a total of five trains going from Ipoh to KL and the times are as follows:

Ipoh to KL Sentral
Express services - Estimated traveling time: 1 hour 50 minutes
(5 stops - Batu Gajah, Kampar. Tanjung Malim, Kuala Lumpur and KL Sentral)
1st: 4am
2nd: 2pm (right up to Seremban)

Transit services - Estimated traveling time: 2 hours 15 minutes
(10 stops - Batu Gajah, Kampar, Tapah Road, Sungkai, Slim River, Behrang, Tanjung Malim, Rawang, Kuala Lumpur and KL Sentral)
1. 5.30am
2. 11.15am
3. 6.30pm

KL Sentral to Ipoh
Express services - Estimated traveling time: 1 hour 50 minutes
1. 6.20am
2. 6.48pm

Transit services - Estimated traveling time: 2 hours 15 minutes
1. 8.30am
2. 2pm
3. 9pm

The one way fare from Ipoh-KL and vice versa is RM30 for the first 6 months. We have no idea yet what the fare will be like after this promotional period. It could be anything above RM40 since first class seat from KL Sentral to Ipoh is RM40 on a diesel engine powered train which took almost 3 hours.

In any case, looking at the times that the train leaves Ipoh, they are not viable for someone going down for a day trip for business or pleasure. Maybe 5.30am is a good one for people going down for work. The rest of the times are neither here nor there.

As for the one from KL Sentral to Ipoh, I like the 6.48pm and the 9pm trains. Perhaps I'd take these if I were to plan a day trip to KL.

Sexy Costume Party

I have been invited, through Facebook, to a costume party that my old school mate is throwing. I am not sure if I will attend and haven't RSVPed yet because we are required to dress up in sexy costumes and you know me... I am so conventional, I would feel out of place in a sexy costume! I don't even have a figure to carry off anything sexy. I would do well dressed as a pumpkin, though.

Apart from my reservations, it would be great if I could attend and see all my old school friends dressed up sexily to the nines. It would be hilarious as I am sure, a lot of them are like me too, not feeling so sexy ordinarily but not passing up the chance to dress up when they can.

I guess I would need more time to think about this. Call me old fashion. I'm not denying it!

Ipoh's PC Show 2010

There is a PC Show currently running in Ipoh, not the one organized by PIKOM but this one is co-sponsored by Kelab Anak Malaysia and MBI, at Stadium Indera Mulia. The Show will be running from 6th to 8th of August, over three days from 11am to 10pm.

I went to the Fair yesterday and in the afternoon and managed to see some items that I would really like to own because they would be useful for me but I didn't buy anything yet even though the vendors tempted me with so many freebies, which they said were only available on the first day while stocks last.

Argh... seriously, I am tempted but then I think of the money spend on these devices and I can't find justification for it yet. I hope that one day, I could buy what I like without so much thoughts in my head. LOL

Insurance Offer

My brother received an offer from his bank to buy no exam life insurance a couple of weeks ago. I like the policy which doesn't require us to undergo full medical examination and all we need to do is fill out a form, submit it and payment will be deducted from our bank account automatically every month.

You know me. I procrastinate so much, if I have to go through the hoops to get my life insurance, I don't know when I would finally get it. I do know that life insurance is very important, especially when I have my family who depends on my income, but when I think of the monthly financial commitment, I cringe.

But then again, there is really no running away from insurance because it is essential in life. I could drag my feet but not for too long!
