Despite watching TVB dramas off and on, I am ashamed to say that I have just discovered Kevin Cheng. I'm suffering from Kevin Cheng fever now; boy, is he hot! After watching Hard Fate, The Seventh Day and now three episodes into Under The Canopy of Love, I am going to go back and try watching some old TVB dramas by him like Life Art, Forensic Heroes II and Ultimate Crime Fighter. I don't care if these are good, I just want to watch Kevin Cheng. Either that or watch reruns. I wouldn't mind one bit. LOL

Seriously Considering Going Back To School
Although I am extremely busy now caring for Snoopy, I have also spent a lot of time thinking what I should do once this responsibility is over. I could look for full time employment or study part time plus part time employment. I could also study full time. I do earn enough doing what I do now but I need to progress.
A very good option for me would be to get an online university degree. Since I don't even know if I will still be here or moving to the city, studying online means that I could study wherever I am as long as I have an internet connection for my laptop.
The only problem for me if I were to study online is all the distractions that I get online and I must be more disciplined in cutting back on time spent on online games, movies, dramas, Facebook and online chatting.

Kevin Cheng Fever
If you have been following my blog, you would know that I stopped watching TVB dramas or any other dramas and movies since Snoopy fell ill on May 19th, 2009. That was because taking care of him around the clock, I didn't like to pause my video thousands of times. That would spoil the show.
Lately, I could find some time for entertainment again and I decided to watch TVB dramas again. As luck would have it, I started with Hard Fate, a 30-episode drama that has this super hot actor, model and singer by the name of Kevin Cheng Ka Wing. I don't know why I never noticed him before. Probably I don't watch enough of TVB thanks to Korean dramas or maybe because I really laid off dramas that long!

Comfortable Life
I had the chance to meet up with my cousin a couple of days ago when he came home from the capital city because his mother, my aunt, had to undergo an emergency operation. I think I haven't seen him for at least ten years. Even though he comes home almost every month, I guess we could just never spare the time to get together all these while and it had to take an emergency like this to get the family together.
Anyway, I was surprised that he has put on quite a lot of weight because he was such a skinny boy last time. I teased him that he is living a comfortable life now but he told me that he is not happy with his current body shape.
Well, maybe he could lose some weight if he could find effective weight loss pills. He told me that right now, he's just been trying to exercise regularly but usually, the mind is willing but the body is not! It truly takes a lot of discipline to exercise and definitely not as convenient as popping pills. Hahaha!

Third Round Of Tick Parasite Infection
I have no idea what I am doing wrong but Snoopy is down with tick parasite infection for the third time. You know, tick parasite infection is a very elusive illness because it could cause so many different complications to the body that could easily mislead a less experienced veterinarian but once discovered, it is not difficult to treat.
The difficult part is in early detection and in the dog's own immune system. As you know, Snoopy is already in a bad shape and with this third infection, it will be tough for him to pull through though since seeking medical attention on Tuesday, he has shown slight improvement.
I was pretty pissed off that medical aide was not available when we needed it no thanks to it being Sunday where the clinic was closed and being Hari Raya holidays where the clinic was supposed to open but it was not. You can imagine the worry of medical attention coming too late even though I did not know yet that it is tick parasite yet again. I just knew that Snoopy fell ill and had to go to see a doctor.
Right now, I am just taking one day at a time and hopes he doesn’t suffer too much. My poor Snoopy.

Long-Deserving Break
To say that I am exhausted is an understatement. Taking care of Snoopy right now for the 17th week is extremely taxing to the mind and body. Besides being bedridden, he is now suffering from a third round of tick parasite infection. He's suffering. I, his primary caregiver, am suffering. And so is the whole family.
Once this is over, I swear I am going to take a long break. If I have the budget, the whole family goes. Otherwise, I don't mind taking a vacation alone. I have read much about riviera maya vacations though these vacations are more suited for romancing couples. Holidaying families would also have a good time there too but if I were to holiday alone, Riviera Maya is out.
Anyway, right now, I have no idea when I would be able to get away. When I am able to, it would mean that Snoopy has died. It's not something that I want to think about. When his time comes as it surely will, it will still be extremely heartbreaking for me even as I pray for his suffering to end.

Four Months
Saturday, 19th September, 2009, marked four months since Snoopy became invalid. No, he's not paralyzed because he still has feelings in his hind legs. For reasons best known to his nervous system, he just can't walk.
It is hard to believe that I have endured this pain with him for four long months already. It has been a very trying period of my life, physically taxing and emotionally draining. I didn't imagine that in this condition, Snoopy would last this long.
Today is the second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and is a public holiday. Unfortunately, Snoopy fell ill yesterday and we would have to wait for the clinic to open for business tomorrow to seek medical attention. Since yesterday afternoon, Snoopy hasn't eaten much though luckily, he still drinks. Tomorrow can't come soon enough.
A situation like this just reminds me why I hate keeping pets. Vets are not available when I need them. Nokia 1202 For RM88 Only
Today, I received a SIM card from Maxis. I was surprised because I did not know that when Maxis called up, and my father who uses that line, picked up the phone, my father agreed to have a supplementary line. Well, I didn't make a fuss since it's only RM10 per month service fee and my mother did not have a handphone.
So my brother went to a shopping mall nearby to look for a basic handphone for mother and ended up with Nokia 1202 which was selling for RM88 only. My brother said that it's an original set and not "water set" but I am surprised that the phone could sell so cheaply.
I understand that this model was selling at RM138 during Merdeka sale. Now, only two weeks later since then, it's Hari Raya Sale, and the price has gone down by RM50! Anyway, my mother has a new toy now and I am teaching her how to operate the handphone. Just making and receiving calls would suffice for the time being.

My friend, Paul, told me that he is not taking chances with the economy. Even though he has seen slight improvements over the past couple of months, he is still trying his best to be frugal. Funny, I thought big businesses like his were hardly affected but then it's high time he learns to be prudent a little!
Paul told me that he has to travel to nearby New Orleans next month on business and as usual, he would be booking his hotel accommodation and air tickets over the internet. However, this time, he plans to do some price comparison on cheap hotels New Orleans first and not book his room through the first hotel website that he comes across at the top of the search engine.
When he told me about this, I had to stifle a smile because he sounds like he has learned from me. I wonder if he would find the process worthy of the little savings he will get or if it'd be a waste of time since it could be quite time consuming!

Almost a year ago, I read in the Star about Secret Recipe's recruitment programme for senior citizens and retirees. I thought it would be a good job opportunity for my aunt, a retired school teacher. However, when this information came out in the papers, my aunt has holding a job so I did not enquire for her. When she lost her job recently, I decided to find out more information for her.
Unfortunately, while this programme is an ongoing effort by Secret Recipe, it is only available at the headquarters and at Secret Recipe branches that belong to the main company, and not franchise outlets.
The two Secret Recipe outlets in Ipoh are franchisees so I called the one in Kinta City to see if they are participating in this programme. The supervisor told me over the phone that they did not because they are well staffed thanks to college students who are on their semester break.

I lost a lot of weight because of this. Friends who do not know better thought that I am on an effective diet pill but I don't need any pills. Just deprive me of sleep and give me the associated stress that comes with being a full time caregiver!

Remembering My Paternal Grandmother On 13th September
When my paternal grandmother was still alive, we would never fail to celebrate her birthday yearly. Although I am not close to her, and in fact, she looked down on my family because my father, to her, was the worst performing child only because my father had to work to support her while the rest of his siblings pursued higher education. Still, without her around, the extended family seems to have disintegrated. After all, we have one less reason to get together.
My paternal grandmother was an orphan and her birth records were unclear. In fact, 13th September was not her date of birth and the year that was written on her birth certificate was not the year she was born in. But then a person needs to have a date of birth and somehow, 13th September was chosen as the date and that was the date we would celebrate her birthday for her every year.
She was a Roman Catholic and Christmas was another occasion that the whole family got together to celebrate the season with her. Without her, that was yet another reason less to get together. I remember getting Christmas gifts from her when my siblings, cousins and I were young but as we got older, she started giving us cash instead. I guess cash is more practical or perhaps she has exhausted her Christmas gift giving ideas.
Today I remember her and the loss that came with her demise. We did not just lose her but also everything that she represented, we also lost the family warmth that we used to share.

A friend sent me a text message late last night asking if I have connections to cheaper BB and airsoft guns. Reruns Of Old Dramas & Movies
About a month ago, I lost a lot of unwatched dramas and movies which I stored in my computer hard disk. It was damaged and had to be replaced and the files could not be salvaged. I had a back up but it was not the latest so I lost some of my files. I roughly know what I lost but could not be 100% certain.
Last evening, I checked my external hard disk to see what dramas and movies I have and to my dismay, I only have what I have already watched. ALL OF THEM! So it looks like if I would like to watch anything now, it would be a rerun of an old drama or movie. I thought I would like to watch The Gem of Life again because of the soundtracks but the thought of sitting through 82 episodes sort of scares me, especially now when I don't even have more than ten minutes at a time at the computer!
Perhaps I should watch something really old like My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. It is only 16 episode long and since it was my first Korean drama, I don't remember most of the storyline already and I will get to watch Hyun Bin again. Woohoo!

20in Screen Not Large Enough
It's funny that when I first bought my 20in Samsung LCD a little while back, I thought that the screen was large enough for my needs and in fact, it was a little wide and would take some getting used to. I open at least three browsers at the same time, overlapping one another as I monitor all three browsers at the same time and with this new screen, I could do this comfortably so much so that I didn't even need to use my laptop and in fact, when I was on my 12in laptop, the screen suddenly looked so small!
Anyway, now, weeks into using my new screen and already used to its width, I am thinking that 20in screen is not large enough and it would be wonderful if I have a 24in one! LOL I guess one can never be totally satisfied with technology that's why they move so fast!
But then again, a friend told me that my graphic card may not be able to support a 24in screen and I may have to troubleshoot like he had to earlier. I definitely could not afford all the run around right now so a 20in screen will have to do. Wait till the old 17in CRT knocks out first. Hehe!

My sister told me that she is once again making plans to visit Miami, Florida. Yes, again. I don't know how many times she has visit but she says there are always so many things to see and do, her vacation is always never long enough.
This time, with a new football season, she hopes to catch her favorite team, Miami Dolphins, in their home game if she could get her hands on a couple of Miami Dolphins Tickets for her husband and herself.
I reminded her that for hot tickets like that, especially for home games, she would have to book her tickets online lest she gets disappointed when she is there only to be told that Miami Dolphin tickets are sold out.

Different From The Pact
As you know, I have been taking care of Snoopy for the past 3.5 months. Close friends know how tough it is for me, but others couldn't care less. There are some people who would invite me to this or that social function or ask me out for yum cha and what not and I have to turn them down.
They think it's pretty stupid of me to waste time like this on an ailing dog. I sometimes could not understand myself and why I do think but I just know that I cannot kill him and I have to grit my teeth and bear it no matter how tough the situation is.
Everyone has been telling me to put him to sleep. I have to admit that the thought has crossed my mind before because it is just so tough most of the time but there's one friend, only one, who told me that I have to take care of him because Snoopy has been with us for 14.5 years already. And that's what we, I, have to do for Snoopy in his final days.

I was checking my old accounts lately and noticed that I have two non-payments for work done with a company. I am a freelancer so it is not easy to keep tab on payment but I do remember that my work was handed in at the end of 2008. I should have been paid in early 2009 and I did write in to them regarding my payment but that was two months ago!
I told a friend about this problem; he asked me for the amount and I told him that one is $200 and the other is $300. He said that these are just small amounts. Granted but does that mean that the company does not have to pay me? Does that mean I don't have to collect my money?
I may sound like I am hard up for the money but it's a matter of principle to me. We have agreed on the price for my work and they should fulfill their side of the agreement, don't you think so, even if it's just $50 or even $5, and not $500.

I have been following the Daphne Iking case since it came out in the papers at the end of August. I am interested to know the outcome of this case, mainly because I do not think it is possible for a man to entice a married woman for the intention of sexual intercourse.
There are many ways for the pursuer to prove that this relationship wasn't one way street but I am no lawyer and I would leave that to his lawyers. Yet, some of my friends think that the husband dragged this to public courts only for some monetary gain now that his wife has gone wild.
If I was the judge, I'd ask Daphne, "So which guy do you want now?" Choose and then we can close the case. LOL

Ipoh Food
All my friends who are not from Ipoh tell me that they would like to try Ipoh food. It's funny that I lived here all my life but do not think that Ipoh food is especially extraordinary. These friends, some have not even been to Ipoh at all yet, think that it's all because I hardly eat out so I haven't really tasted Ipoh food much.
One thing I noticed is that Ipoh food is getting more and more expensive, even more expensive than certain places in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, the portions are getting smaller and smaller!
These things, my friends certainly do not know about because they have not tried Ipoh food back in those days when yes, Ipoh food was cheap and delicious, came in large portions and best of all, served fast! Maybe this is why I hardly eat out already. Boy, I sure miss those days!
One thing I noticed is that Ipoh food is getting more and more expensive, even more expensive than certain places in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, the portions are getting smaller and smaller!
These things, my friends certainly do not know about because they have not tried Ipoh food back in those days when yes, Ipoh food was cheap and delicious, came in large portions and best of all, served fast! Maybe this is why I hardly eat out already. Boy, I sure miss those days!
Gold Or Silver Commemorative Coins
My sister told me that her boss has asked her to organize the year end company annual event. She said that she has done it last year so that is not a problem. The headache comes from looking for a good gift for long serving staff. She said she cannot buy the same gifts that were given out last year and she needs something different.
I suggested that she buys gold or silver coin each since commemorative coins are very popular and even though these coins are not too expensive now, they could be quite valuable in time to come.
My sister thinks it's a brilliant idea, especially since some of her colleagues are coin collectors. They would surely be delighted to receive a coin gift! Let's hope her boss is agreeable so that my sister could start preparing for the event.

The Strengthen Friendship Award
It really has been an awfully long time since I received any blogging or friendship awards. When I first started blogging, I was very active in socializing with other bloggers and we exchange awards like these but other priorities have taken my time and I only have time to focus on my blogs, if I am lucky!

Hokkien Ghost Festival
I never knew that the Hokkiens "celebrate" Ghost Festival one day later than the rest of the world. By the rest of the world, I mean the Chinese speaking community. Seven month 14th day of the Chinese lunar calendar is the day I know as the Ghost Festival. So does every one I speak to.
But last night, a Hokkien friend told me that while many Chinese were burning candles and offering food and other paper paraphernalia by the road side outside their homes, the Hokkiens will only do so tonight, on the 15th day of 7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
I wonder why the Hokkiens are always late. They celebrate Chinese New Year NINE days later than the rest of the Chinese! Thank God I'm not Hokkien. LOL
So I asked a friend, a non Hokkien, if he could come out with a logical answer why the Hokkiens "celebrate" Ghost Festival a day later. According to this friend, Hokkiens are stingy people. I know not all are but it's just the perception. So even when praying to ghostly spirits, they have to wait for the rest of the Chinese people to appease the spirits with food and stuff like clothes, etc, so that on the following day when it is their turn to do so, they only have to do it in a smaller scale since the spirits are already full and have grabbed what they need already!
I love his logic but I am not going to share it personally with other Hokkien friends lest they take offence. LOL

Taking Control Of Life Again
It has been 3.5 months since I have left everything in life on the wayside as I took time off caring for my dog that fell gravely ill and became bedridden. Many of my friends wonder how I cope with this because they all tell me that they do not have the patience to do so.
Frankly, I too do not have the patience; I am not an angel and I am sometimes mean to Snoopy because he gets too difficult to handle especially in the middle of the night and I lose my sleep, and in the process, my cool as well.
Life is such that we sometimes find ourselves in very difficult situations that we want to get out of and yet unable to and have to see it through. This is what I am facing right now. I don't like it but I cannot do anything about it.
Anyway, I promise myself to pick up where I left off before Snoopy fell ill. I'll probably start life afresh in the city; there's nothing holding me back anymore. I'd be leaving most of my stuff behind so I don't need a Moving Company. Just a car will do. But I know that when I have a more permanent place, I'll be calling for my possessions. I am too sentimental a person!
