I have been having this problem with my Epson printer CX-3900 off and on. From my friends who are also Epson users, this sounds like a pretty common issue. I am sure Epson knows about it. I hate it when something does not work just when I wanted to use it. Like right now, I have a document that I want to print out. It's not urgent and I have another printer though it's not Dura-brite ink
I think newer printer models, especially those that have separate ink tanks that are supposedly smarter than old mode printers are actually worse! Instead of helping us save on ink, which are darn expensive, my friend told me that if I replaced a cartridge, the printer may not be able to recognise the other half-used cartridges and I may have to replace all cartridges AT THE SAME TIME, even if there is still ink in them. You say dumb or not?
So right now, what I am doing is just to try to switch it on and off and hope that the printer could finally detect my ink. It's showing that the ink has emptied but I swear that it's not true! Urghh it's seriously testing my patience!

Buy a new one then :) Printers are cheap nowadays. The most expensive part of the printer is the cartridge, you can buy a new printer if you buy a set of original cartridge.
