It's Not Bad Being Construction Workers

Seriously. They work shorter hours than I do, working under the hot sun not withstanding! As you probably have read in an earlier post, the house opposite of mine is undergoing major renovation. The construction workers will come in and report for work at 8am. They only reach here at 7.55am.

Anyway, work starts at 8am and then there is a brunch break at 10 - 10.30am. Work continues then until 12noon where they will have an hour's break for lunch. They come back at 1pm and work until 3pm where they are given 30 minutes break for tea. After that, they work until 5pm to wrap u the day. Of course, they do not work until 5pm sharp. They stop work at 4.30 - 4.45pm so that they have a little time to pack up in time for 5pm. Anything more than that will be overtime.

See, if you calculate the total number of hours they work per day, six days a week, that's not a lot and they probably earn more than many of us, especially the master masons and master carpenters. And then if it rains, they do not come to work at all, otherwise they charge the contractor a full day's pay. If it rains at 3pm or so, they get to go early. Sunday is off day. Short hours, isn’t it?
