Network Support For Drug Addicts

I guess only people who have been through drug addiction know what it feels like to be in the grip of drugs. Most addicts feel like their whole life revolves around drugs only and every breath they breathe is another second closer to their drug fix.

I have seen this happening to my neighbor. Though we are not close and I do not feel exactly a 100% of what he went through, I can see the suffering he went through and the pain he caused to his family and shame he put them through.

After he was caught by the police, he was sent to a
drug rehab center in another city, far away from his usual crowd of drug addict friends. At first, his family was very reluctant to see him leave as they thought that he will be bullied and ill treated at the center.

However, the people at the center were most supportive and caring towards him. They do not treat him like he is a useless drug addict, scum of society and what not. They made him feel like a useful member of the community with much to contribute too.

This attitude stemmed from the fact that most of the caregivers were drug addicts themselves, and they managed to kick the bad habit and now would like to give back to society by helping others in the same boat.

They do know what it takes to keep away from drugs and they go all out to provide this kind of network support to start the path to complete healing not only for the addict but for the family too.

This support is the most important to any drug addict so that they do not go back to the old ways. This is the time that is most crucial to provide the much needed support when they are most vulnerable.
