Finally, this morning, the new Perak Menteri Besar [Chief Minister], is installed. Now, as a Perakian, what I really want is benefits that will actually help us lower the cost of living. I know that the cost of living in Perak is already comparatively lower than other cities BUT we must also take into consideration that our earning power is a lot less too.
I was told by my friends who own businesses here in Ipoh that a fresh university graduate can only command RM1300 - RM1400 per month whereas a person with the same qualification can draw a pay cheque of RM1800 per month.
Granted, living in a larger city like Penang, Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru means that the cost will be higher so the extra RM500 only feels like a drop in the bucket.
Anyway, even without the goodies, I'm glad that the selection, appointment and swearing in of the new MB is settled. We have been preoccupied for weeks. Now we can move on with our lives!
