Are Ipoh Folks Different?

No, I don't think so. We also have two eyes, two ears, a nose, a mouth. Well, at least the majority of us do! I think the fact that some people think that Ipoh folks are different and "ulu" is because Ipoh people have less expandable income, hence we spend less on food, clothes, etc.

Who doesn't want to use the latest devices, dress in the latest fashion and eat at the swankiest places? All these cost money, something that most Ipoh folks are not able to spend on, otherwise home and auto loans will not be serviced; parents and children will not have their allowances for the months. Well, you get the drift.

This doesn't make Ipoh folks kiamsiap. This doesn't make Ipoh folks out-dated. And certainly, this doesn't make Ipoh folks kampung-ish. I am in Ipoh and I know that most of us are just trying to live within our means because we are not paid as much as our counterparts in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru due to the misconception that Ipoh enjoys a lower cost of living. In addition, most of us do not have as many opportunities to earn extra income as those who are in bigger cities.
