Reduction of Diesel Price

Last evening, I was about to refuel the car when I read that price of our diesel will be reduced by 10sen to RM2.05 per litre. Well, well, well, it has been a long time coming. The price of global crude oil has dropped to less than US$70 per barrel for sometime already and the G should act fast in revising the prices of fuel here in Malaysia. The longer they drag their feet, the heavier our burdens are.

Even though reduction of 10sen per litre is not much, it is better than nothing. Hopefully, it will go below RM2 per litre in the short term despite what some ministers say. After all, they do need to acknowledge that the world price of crude oil has fallen by 50% and our market price for fuel here in Malaysia should reflect that.

With lower fuel prices, it would help make owning a car more affordable, despite the higher car loan interest rate which has caused many people I know to cancel their car order, even though they had to forfeit their deposit.

I still maintain that diesel should always be kept cheap, and NOT on par with petrol, because it is industrial fuel and the high price of diesel just makes manufacturing cost to be passed down to consumers.

Well, let’s just see how things go next month, depending on how the economy is in the United States.
