China's Tainted Milk & White Rabbit Creamy Candy

While we are sympathetic towards the children of China who has been stricken with kidney failures after consuming tainted milk, that incident reminds me of the dog food scandal last year where these food were also mixed with melamine. I don't know what it is with China that they have to mix ingredients with "poison" just to increase protein levels when assayed.

My family normally does not consume any Chinese (or Thai) made fast food because of the lack of quality control so we were sure that we do not have any China milk powder at home but out of curiosity, I checked the list of possible tainted food and found that candy is one of them. Off hand, I could not recall any China brand sweets but further down the list, to my horror, I recognise White Rabbit Creamy Candy.

This has been removed from shelves and banned AGAIN. I remember that the Philippines found that White Rabbit Creamy Candy has been banned last year also because of tainted ingredients.

When I was in school, I used to eat White Rabbit Creamy Candy. The special thing about it is the paper-thin inner wrapper that could be eaten. I later learnt that it's made with sticky rice but when I was a kid, it really fascinated me.

My sister told me that when she first arrived in the United States, she was a little surprised to find White Rabbit Creamy Candy in Walmart but then Walmart is like EconSave in Malaysia where 95% of the inventory is from China.
