America may be a land of opportunity but my friend, Paul, tells me that there are still homeless people in New York City. And like every other country, there are hungry people. Surprising, isn't it?
There was a period in my life years ago when I survived on canned food daily which were “bought” on credit from a local grocer so when I chanced upon this Stamp Out Hunger! awareness campaign, I feel compelled to blog about it.
Stamp Out Hunger! is a campaign initiated sixteen years ago by Campbell Soup Company together with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). The aim is to get as many American families as possible to donate FOOD to the hungry people in the country.
If you are living in American right now, and would like to contribute to this cause, what you have to do is to prepare non-perishable food, pack them well in a bag and place this next to your mailbox BEFORE the mailman calls upon your home on May 10th. The mailmen will then collect all these bags of food from contributing homes and deliver them to food bank members and other charitable communities.
I think that this is a great idea for anyone to give a little back to the community. It is said that it is better to give than to receive. How true is this? Why not try it out yourself in conjunction with Stamp Out Hunger!?
Feel free to obtain further information on Stamp Out Hunger! on their official website HERE. If you have a blog, I urge you to blog about this and let your readers know how they can contribute to the cause and eliminate hunger. Food is a basic necessity and nobody should go hungry. Let us, in whatever way we can, help to create awareness of this single day food drive that is happening across America next Saturday on May 10th, 2008. Together, we can do it!
