I may not drive because I don't own a car but if I did, I would probably be pulling my hair trying to think of ways to reduce gasoline. I am already taking responsibility of fueling the family car and although it runs on diesel, which is supposedly cheaper than petrol here in Malaysia, the savings is insignificant because of the atrocious road tax.
My sister, who lives in Tennessee and depends on her car totally wherever she wants to go because she said that the public transport there is so poor that she has only seen the bus twice the whole time she has lived there, tells me that she has to drive slightly over an over to work and another hour to get home after work. You can imagine the fuel she needs even though she claims that her car is fuel efficient and does not drive too fast, too slow, or brake suddenly, which are all causes of increasing the use of gas.
Well, there's this carpooling service in the United States call Rideshare which is a free service which you can check out at http://www.ridesearch.com/. This website is a platform for people who are interested to share a ride to work or school.
There is a map of America on their website and it looks like rideshare is very popular right now in the larger cities, though I believe that this service will pick up in other areas soon seeing how gasoline prices have risen over the past few years.
RideShare.com is also on the iPhone now so if you own an iPhone, you can easily access their website and use their free gas calculator or even search for a carpooling buddy right from your iPhone.
