Have You Adopted an Angel?

My sister told me that this Christmas, she has adopted an angel. I guess that after seven years in living in the West, one would naturally soak up the culture there. According to my sister, she was out shopping at the mall when she saw a Salvation Army booth set up there. She headed over and they said that they have angels up for adoption.

My sister when through a stack of cards with a child's name on each card and age. I am not sure if there are any suggested gifts on the card but my sister said that since it will be her first angel, she selected the easiest card. The age of her angel was written as 0 that means that she is not even one year old.

What my sister plans to give are baby clothes and other things that a baby would need. She would have to buy them new since she does not have a baby herself but that looks easy enough even if she is too young to know about. It is said that half the joy in receiving a gift is in giving it. My sister finds joy in shopping for the gifts and she has until the first week of December to turn in the gifts to the Salvation Army.

My sister says she plans to adopt more angels next Christmas.

I wonder if there is anything like this over here. When my late grandmother, a Roman Catholic, was still alive, we used to buy lots of stuff to give to orphanages and old folks' homes but we never gave them to an individual. So there's a slight difference there!
