Money Is Empowering

Last month I was out shopping and I saw a girl asking her mother to buy a lantern to play with during the Lantern festival so the lady had to ask her husband if he would buy it. He said no, he's not buying but the girl already placed the lantern into the trolley. And the lady was telling the husband, "But she wants it."

And the man said, "Afterwards when we pay for our other stuff, offload this and she won't even remember."

But the wife was like, "Buy lah, once a year only mah. Let her play lah!"

How much does a lantern cost? I don't know but the most would be RM10, right? And here the woman has to ask the husband to buy it and he has to be so cheapo and not buy it for the child. She is young and if she does not play with lanterns now then when should she play them?

Even as a by stander, I find it totally demeaning for a woman to have to ask for a few bucks like that. I'm not saying that if she has the money she should flaunt it but if she could afford it and the husband refused to buy it for their daughter, she can pay for it herself. Wouldn't that be ideal?
