My sister went to Washington D.C. in early July to visit a lady who is her boyfriend's aunt. They received news that she was suffering from final stage cancer and only has a few more months to live. From my sister's city to Washington D.C. is about ten hours' drive and so they decided to take the plane which is not cheap, you know, because they do not have Air Asia.
So they flew in and visited the sick lady overnight and came home. My sister had to work the following day and then it was the 4th of July holiday where she got a day off.
Well, that was not the end of it because on the morning of 4th of July, the boyfriend received news that the lady passed away. Again, my sister and the boyfriend had to fly out for the funeral. What bad timing.
Imagine coming home not even one day on such a long journey and then having to fly out again and for a funeral no less! But they were saying how lucky there were to be able to see her while she was still alive.
This got me thinking about the time when my grandmother was sick. My cousin did not come and visit her because he wanted to wait for the whole family to be free and come all together. By the time they all managed to synchronize their schedule, my grandmother already took her last breath.
Till today, my cousin is very regretful. Well, regret also no use, right? There are times when we just have to put down everything and attend to the most important thing in life. Once someone is not here anymore, no matter what we do is never enough and can never compensate the past.
