Every Parent's Nightmare

I read in The Star on 4th Feb, 2007 about the Snake Girl in Ipoh. It is very scary for any parent to face a child like that. The Chinese believe that a pregnant lady has to be extra careful of her diet, actions and the places she goes to.

Many believe that bad things will harm the unborn baby and some babies will be born with defects due to the actions of the mother when she was pregnant. And this Snake Girl is a classic example.

Sometimes it is not up to us whether we want to be superstitious or not. Is there a choice when all it takes is to be careful of what we do, versus what our actions will cause our baby and then for a whole lifetime be reminded of the unfortunate event?

Sometimes there are things that can be rectified, sometimes things go one way with no reversal.

There are cases where even though the baby is already born, one still can't make any major alterations to the home, like construction, with the baby around. Call this old wives' tale, but I have seen it happen before.

It is not up to us to believe or not. We have no choice, really.
