This is a belated post on "One In A Million" which concluded last Friday, on 22nd September, 2006. I know, I know I'm behind time, but you know how I've been complaining ever so much that I'm bogged down by work and two sick monkeys?
Well, to my horror, I just realised that I forgot to submit a report, which I have been doing every month-end for the past eight years, and it had completely slipped my mind.
My last report was in May, 2006. Is that scary or what? I mean, I've been doing this for so long now it should have been routine, but I can totally forget about it. I have missed three reports. I hope my position is not jeopardised.
Anyway, about "One In A Million", in late July, 2006 when they were down to the top 12 contestants, I wrote in my team blog that my bet was on Suki winning the title and a cool million Ringgit. My vision is not bad, huh? ;P
Actually, it wasn't difficult to realise that Suki will be the runaway winner; she was the only Chinese contestant. The rest were Malays and there were no split SMS votes. Yes, these sort of reality shows touch on racial lines, whether we like it or not.
Any Chinese, no matter if she/he can sing or not, no matter if she/he is talented or not, will win if she/he is the only Chinese in a pool of contestants that are decided by public votes. This is solely my opinion, but I don't think I'm too far off the mark.
I think that Faizal Tahir, the city rocker (as opposed to Kampung Rocker from Malaysian Idol), pulled off the best performance in the entire OIAM season, with his medley of three songs in the Grand Finale. Unfortunately for him, the phone lines closed too soon for the fence-sitters to cast their votes.
Now, it can only remain an unanswered question, "Will Faizal Tahir be the winner if the phone lines remained open for, say, another week?"
Having said these, I am not saying Suki doesn't deserve to win. Or that she is not talented enough. To me, Suki is not that outstanding, but given time, she will improve as time is on her side. With a million Ringgit, one can polish lots of diamonds.
If you're wondering, NO, I did not vote for anyone, I never did, even during the days of Malaysian Idol 1 & 2, and I never will vote. I just watch them purely for their cheap entertainment value, if any. No matter who wins makes no difference to me, personally.

Didn't really watch OIAM but surprisingly, Dayang didn't win eh.
Ahh, perhaps people think she's better off without that money and all that package, since she's pretty much established as a singer anyway.
A friend told me that Suki doesn't really speak English while the rest of contestants did.. izit? A bit ironic.
She can speak English, but not that fluent as She is Chinese educated.
As for Dayang, I think she had quite a number of OUT votes.
