Modem For 3.5G Connectivity

I'm really blur. As I mentioned a couple of posts back, I am planning to get a 3.5G subscription separate from my voice subscription. I only have to choose between Maxis and Celcom and I am leaning towards Maxis, mainly because I do not have to sign a contract for 18 months of subscription and could terminate my account whenever I am dissatisfied with it.

For Celcom, though, I need to sign with them for 18 months and being a Celcom Advance user, there have been a few times when their 3G signal was totally down and I did not have 3G connectivity for hours. And that means no phone calls or texting for the duration unless I switch my SIM card to a non-3G mobile phone.

Now my problem is, which modem to buy? The mobile store, a Maxis reseller, recommended a USB modem that they are selling at RM799, but it's on promotion and is being sold now at RM699. And I would not have to pay RM100 for the SIIM card.

However, I just learnt that there are sellers in Lelong.com.my who are selling modems, different types, though, for about RM350. What's the difference? I'm so confused because I don't know which to buy. While I would definitely enjoy the savings, the headache would come if I need to claim warranty as I am in Ipoh.

Somebody, please help me out!
