Trust On The Web

I read with dismay that an online store was hacked recently. Well, I have to admit that I was tempted to shop with them not too long ago but changed my mind when I saw that they do not have a security certificate. While some people will think nothing of that, I am very particular when it comes to disclosing my personal and financial information over the web.

Ideally, all commercial websites should have a Trusted Internet environment but I think that this is still in its infancy and not all sites, particularly those in less developed countries.

Early this morning, I was told of Melih Abdulhayoglu's blog which drives home the point on the importance of having a trusted internet. This is actually every web users’ right and not something extra that webmasters of commercial sites may offer to us.

If you shop online, you should make it a habit to check how secure it is to disclose your financial information like your credit card number over the web. Of course we hope that everything would be fine but one could never be too sure. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
