Got Struck By Lightning AGAIN!!!

Barely three months after being struck by lightning and replacing whatever hardware I could lay my hands on, yet it still took the internet connection to be back to "normal" only after 2.5 months, my networking got struck by lightning again.

Please don't lecture me about shutting off and unplugging everything when the lightning comes. Yes, I do know all these precautionary measures but when the lightning hits, I don't even have time to shut off two computers. I only have so many hands and the computers are quite a distance away.

So what to do? This time, I have got a dead modem and a dead wireless router "only". I replaced these two with a modem router + wireless combo, while waiting to claim warranty for my modem and wireless router. Once they get back, I'll keep them as spare. I think one could never have too many modems and routers!

I have also beefed up my surge protection. Hopefully that's sufficient but the best is still unplugging EVERYTHING. And I thought that although I haven’t earned much this month, I was spending lesser too. Fat chance! SIGHH!!!!!!

One more thing you need to watch out is the network card. I have twice lightning strick the network card. That's real troublesome to bring the CPU to the service centre. I've better learn to change myself.

Yes Molly,

I also had two dead network cards the last time. This time, luckily, only the modem and wireless router got fried or I would have to fork out another RM20 X 2 because I have two computers.

Even though it's troublesome to cart the CPU to computer shop, I still had to do it to troubleshoot because I don't have an internet connection to test.

Leceh!

Not sure you are already using this. But Belkin offers insurance for your hardwares if they are powered through Belkin's surge protector.

I'm using one that was given free from Dell. It has been running fine so far.

The insurance is available locally, you can contact the distributor for details. (I don't have the info though).

Hi Eibla,

Thanks! I do use Belkin SurgeMaster (like a 4-gang extension, right?) So far, since my stuff are under warranty, I did not make any claim.

My wireless router and modem router + wireless combo are also Belkin. Expensive, man....
