Workplace Rant

I've this friend who is already 52 years old and he tells me that his superior is trying to "pressure" him out of the company.

I told him that if he can't hold his job, then he might as well retire after this. You know, it really pisses me off. When he was laid off work some three years ago, I spent almost a year helping him look for a job. It was not easy as he was about 48 - 49 years old back then and frankly, he was damn lucky that any company would want to hire him.

No doubt, he was demoted from General Manager at his previous company to Country Manager at his present company, STILL at 48 - 49, it was like hitting the jackpot.

Now, he tells me that he is going through the same thing that he went through before. Hey, I told him that if he did not do anything wrong, as a permanent staff, did he think that he would get kicked out so easily?

Perhaps I am naive as I have never worked in a company like that before. Perhaps MNCs are way more competitive but then seriously, I found him the job, did he expect me to work his job as well? Then I might as well get paid too, right?

I believe that if someone has found you a job, it is up to you to hold it, and hold it tight too. If your superiors have set you unreasonable targets to meet then by all means MEET them!

If he loses his job again, what avenues does he have? I told him that he could forget about being hired at this age and that his option is to set up him own company, but I know that he does not have the capital. Am I being too harsh?
