The selection of the next Perak MB will be most crucial to the survival of the tri-party coalition and more importantly to the DAP in the next General Election. I tell you, most Chinese in Perak will not be happy with an MB from PAS if he is NOT from the DAP. This is because DAP has won the most seats in the State and should have been given the first rights to hold the post of the MB.
Granted, there is the State constitution that says that the MB must be a Malay Muslim and I think that he must be born in Perak as well. Given this, the Sultan has the power to waive this requirement and we all know that Tuanku WILL NEVER do that. For one, giving this highly coveted post to a Chinese will not protect Malay rights and secondly, a Chinese does not understand Royal protocal. Already, DAP Perak Chief, Ngeh Koo Ham, made a blunder when talking to the Press by refering to Raja Nazrin Shah as "He".
This means that it will still boil down to race. Even Anwar Ibrahim said that the "Malay RIGHTS" will be protected. Excuse me, WHAT Rights? The bottom line is that Chinese will not only be second class citizens but FOURTH class in the country.
We voters have very long memory and we do remember what Anwar, and in fact, Mahathir, Najib and many other politicians DID and are still doing to make what the country is today.
I was told that many people who voted for the DAP will be switching votes come GE2012/2013 should PAS be the MB of Perak. DAP will never survive this because of the incessant salvo from the MCA via all major media that they control.

What's more important is who can play the role well as CM in Perak. If the election of CM in Perak is still a racial issue, then i guess it will be no different with BN.
We all looking forward for a change and yet we are still struggling in racial issues.
If the PAS CM can do the job well, why deny him? This is a chance for the parties to show the citizen that they can work together as a stronger better front than BN.
Here's a piece of interesting article bout how the blogger think bout the issue in Perak now.

I guess most of the non-muslim have been clouded too much by mainstream media's reporting bout PAS. MSM has successfully painted the picture where PAS will be more islamic than UMNO. Maybe PAS is, and if they are true muslim as they claimed, they will be fair and liberal as what muslims have always preached.
Yes, it is about racial issues if the State Constitution is not waived. Like I said, the post of the MB should be given to the head of the party with the most seats BUT because of skin color and religion, he is denied the post.
Nobody is denying PAS from being the MB. With DAP out of the picture, there will only be members from PAS and PKR to select from and based on paper qualification alone, PAS has a more qualified candidate than PKR.
The fight this Election, in fact, in any election is for equality and even with a landslide victory by the DAP in Perak, it looks like a losing battle.
However, the new MB, whichever party he is from, can win the people's hearts by lightening our financial burden and raising our standard of living.
Having said this, as an opposition controlled state, we can forget about getting federal funding.
Hmm. you got me there. Yeah.. the policy is a racial one. I overlooked from that point, sorry for that.
I would believe Sultan Perak, as one of the wisest among others in Malaysia, should understand citizen's plea. The change might not happen in a single day but if understanding between parties is there, i'm sure eventually the state government will do the right thing.
Federal funds, yeah. Very likely the distribution will be screwed. And state governments are known to be running deficit each year. But, as the new state goverment do their jobs, we as citizens will probably have to give full co-operation to them.
I wouldn't say DAP is on the losing end, if they have the chance to work with PKR and PAS. This is the very first time that they are actually able to sit down and talk about real issue and able to decide to solve problems together. How will it be a losing battle?
Just that i'm not sure how the policy exist, it could be long time ago, and it wasn't setup by any parties. Most likely.. it is some policies dated from pre-malaya period. Of course it should be abolish if we are speaking about equality. But they have just taken over the office from BN, i'm sure they will iron it out.
Bare in mind, PAS, PKR and DAP have to work together to amend many shitty policies in the country. Give them some time, have faith. :)
Hi there!
Thanks for this lively debate. Yes, the policy was put in place, I believe, by the British. Those States that have Sultans will always have to have Malay Muslim MBs and born in that State too.
With equal represnetation of Chinese/Malay in the new State Government, hopefully, the rights and needs of Indians and other minority races in the State will also be taken care of and not be overlooked yet again.
With change, there is always new hope :-)
Guess i should stop commenting as anonymous.
Hmm. MB has been decided for Perak. The old man LKS gone mad... sigh...
This is so disappointing. Anyway, glad to have this discussion with you. :)
Hi Eibla,
Although I think that it is unfair that the party that holds the most seats is not able to head the State, I think that in this circumstances, Tuanku has made a very fair decision in his selection of MB.
Of course, there were only two candidates to choose from and PAS candidate has better paper qualification.
I think that it's great that provisions have been made to accommodate Chinese and Indian in the post of Deputy MB.
Therefore, I think it is a shame that LKS decides to boycott the swearing in ceremony tomorrow.
They are showing utmost disrespect to the Sultan and I think that they are only risking banishment from the State LOL
