The other day, I wrote a post on dowry and the demands that the bride's family imposed on the groom. Well, it seems that on top of the RM30,000 cash, the girl's family also demanded a jewelry in the form of gold chains. Well, we all know how valuable gold is and how steady its price will stay but then even I think that's too heavy a demand on the groom and it's looking like the girl's family is selling their daughter and not marrying her off.
Some people argued that they have a right to impose a figure as dowry and at the same time the groom has a right to negotiate but I think all these money talk will surely sour their relationship with the extended family before it even started!
Actually, what is the "market price"?
