Staying Motivated

When I was young, I used to keep scrap books where I cut out beautiful pictures from magazines and newspapers and stick them on art blocks. These beautiful pictures could be of anything; people, homes and garden, the latest electronic gadgets, clothes, etc. I don't know who taught me to do so but one thing I remember is that I spent quite a bit of money on the art blocks, glue and cello tape. I even wasted a lot of time going though the papers and magazines and waiting for the family to finish reading the newspapers and magazines before I could mutilate them.

I also have books and books of recipes collected from various publications and all these books are still around till today although I have stopped doing this due to lack of time.

I subsequently read that keeping such scrap books is actually a great motivator for us to work hard. Subconsciously, we WANT these things in our lives, that's why we keep them even if they are only images. So we work towards that goal and many people have been able to achieve what they want through this "trick".

Although now I do not start new scrap books anymore, I do try to motivate myself to work hard by placing pictures of "nice things" that I would like to buy, sticking these pictures on the sides of my monitor. It is not that I am unable to afford them, but I am only going to get them when I am absolutely sure that I NEED them.

And meanwhile, I am working hard for cash and these things, like the Dell, are great motivators to me. Next week, it may be something else.
