I always wondered because I am not lucky to be born with a silver spoon. I have friends who are very lucky though. There's one guy whose father owns a million Ringgit business and in my cow town, one million Ringgit has more value than a million Ringgit in Kuala Lumpur.
His family owns many houses from my town to Kuala Lumpur and his hobbies are computers, fast cars and speakers and boy, does he indulge into these 99. His set of speakers alone cost me a year of my current salary, can you believe it? And although he works in his family business, he can stop working now and still live as he is now for the next three years without working. Being the eldest son of the family, and being the only son who is working for the company, he will be a major shareholder when his father retires.
One thing I like about him is that he has no airs although he is very rich.
And then there is another friend of mine whose father set up a tour company just because she was accepted to be an SIA stewardess. You see, some people have so much spare cash to play around with. It's not as if this stewardess has the time to run the business. And besides, she is now based in Hong Kong. So the tour company is left to the brother to take care, but the brother is working in the family textile company. I ask you, set up the tour company for what?
Talking about tour companies, a boss of one of the major tour agencies in town is our family friend. Once his son left school, he set up a "institute" for his son to run. So young already became the owner and principal of the institute. And do you know what courses are offered by the institute? Beauticians and tourist guides. I don't know if the courses are accredited or not, though.
