Flowers For Mother's Day

My sister wanted to discuss with me the gift to get for our mother. It s always a tough decision to make every year because our mother is a very practical no-frills woman but we love to surprise her, especially on Mother's Day, to show her our love and appreciation.

Of course, Mother's Day flowers would be most convenient for us as we could shop online and it is very secure to pay with credit card. And it is great that the fresh flowers could be delivered to her on the same day. What a lovely gift that would make.

In the end, both of us agreed that a bouquet of Mother's day roses would be perfect for to brighten up her day, especially on Mother's Day. It will surely bring a smile to her face!

Why Did I Buy XL?

Why I did it really beats me. I was rushing for time and did not try out at the dressing room. I was with my father so I asked him to measure the blouse against the back of my shoulder and he said it fits me. So I happily bought it.

When I went home to try it out, it felt so loose then only I checked the tag and to my horror, found that it is an XL. Oh my, how could I?

The other top that I bought was also loose, it is an M. Moreover, the collar line is so low, I can't even bend down a little or risk exposing everything, if there's something to expose in the first place.

This round of shopping is a real disaster. Luckily I had these for cheap but the disappointment is not in the money wasted but the feeling of having something new to wear and then discovering that they do not fit! So sad.

Gambling With Friends And Family

It is the norm to gamble during the Chinese New Year and the celebrations last month was no exception. Chinese New Year is celebrated for the whole of fifteen days and more and it is a joyous occasion.

As always, whenever the family comes home from all corners of the world, we will gamble the night away, munching on snacks. Sleep seems to be the last thing on our minds.

Our usual games during these times are the mahjong and card games and for the Chinese New Year last month, for the first time, I was able to gamble against my friend, who is purportedly the best mahjong player in his family. Oh well, I lost but we had a great time.

For this coming Chinese New Year next year, I am going to bring the casino home with some casino home game packages. I have been fascinated with poker for a long time since watching a Korean drama. This time, I am going to play it with my family and maybe I can beat my friend in poker. He may be great in mahjong, but poker may not be his expertise! This will be a great chance for me, if he does not chicken out first!

Romance Is Indeed For Everyone

This is a true story of my neighbor who has found love again at eighty-something. Before his wife passed away, he already knew this lady, who is a widow. They did have feelings for each other but they did not go a step forward due to the wife.

As soon as the wife passed away due to illness, the widow and widower got together. Some may say that it is bad taste but if this romance is true love, who are we to begrudge or condemn this couple?

Love is universal and romance for everyone is not impossible even if they are already senior citizens. Whoever said romance is only for the young is not living in the 21st century.

I am still single myself and I need to learn something from them. They have found the key to happiness for the second time and there must be a secret to that! Perhaps it is a good idea to get romantic ideas and sample love letters from them. It will be an eye-opener to learn how to write like that! Maybe then I can be successful in my own romance!

Taking The Lazy Way Out

I've been toying with the idea of setting up a personal website just for fun and making myself seen online. It is going to be fun but the problem is I have no idea where and how to start.

A friend told me to read the Dummies book and another recommended me a Dallas website design company whose services he has employed and is satisfied with.

To be frank, I am lazy to read and I do not have a technical mind so even if I read it five times also I will not grasp the workings. So not only am I a dummy but a lazy dummy and the only way out for me, if I were serious about having my own website, is to hire a professional company to take care of everything for me instead of struggling by myself and annoying my friends by asking silly questions.

30th March - Happy Birthday, Boon

Happy Birthday even if I can't wish you face to face. You were almost eight months short of your birthday when you left us, as you suspected that you may not make it until today.

You were the first person who knows about my personal blog. That shows how special you were and still are. I hope that you somehow can see what I have written here. Although live goes on for the living, it is not easy and you will forever be missed.

You know what, I am still keeping your text messages on my phone. New messages come in and my storage is almost to its limit but I am still keeping yours. I wonder when I will, if ever, delete your messages off to make way for new ones, new people.

I don't know, if this is strange. I am still keeping your email messages too and keeping your email address in my contacts list hoping that it will "light up" to indicate your online presence. Silly, silly me.

I am also looking forward to it but when will this service ever reach my cowtown? I desperately need the mobility that WiMAX can offer but I am not willing to pay more than necessary.

Perhaps the higher tariff is justified since I will no longer suffer from high blood pressure from the lousy service I sometimes have to put up with.

When WiMAX is here, it is time to finally invest in a laptop. I have not bought one all along because even with mobile internet, there are some places in the country that give us speed worse than dial up access.

And without WiMAX, why buy a laptop when it will be obsolete three years down the line? I just hope WiMAX won't be taking too long to come!

The Grand National Horse Race

Many people do not know that I am passionate about horses and horse racing. Those who do know were surprised that I bet in horse racing too! They think that a girl should not gamble in horse racing but I take horse racing as sports. I think only horse lovers will know how to appreciate the beauty of a racing horse.

The horse racing fans are now all excited about the Grand National, the most prestigious horse race on the calendar and possibly the toughest horse racing even in the world.

Reduced Size of Header Image

Did you notice that I have reduced the size of my header image? Well, it was 950 X 400 px previously. It's now 950 X 300 px only. I know the blog takes a bit of time to load but I haven't gotten around to doing something about it so far. Until yesterday. Anyway, I hope that it loads better.

I only feel a slight difference though but then my computer isn't the fastest system and Streamyx hasn't been kind to me plus, I'm always downloading something or other, so all these factors do bring the speed down.

Actually, for the past two weeks, the other sites have been rather slow in loading too, so I do not know if my blog has improved with a smaller header image. Hope it has! If not, hope it did not put you off from coming in to read!

Need More Reciprocal Link Back

As you know, I am always looking for ways to improve search engine rankings of my blogs. To do that, I need to raise my Google Page Rank. I have set a target to meet and I hope that I can achieve that in the next Page Rank update.

Customer Magnetism, a company which offers search engine positioning services says that two thirds of people actually click on natural listings for search results, compared to one third of people who click on sponsored listing on the page hence search engine optimization is very important so that our sites will appear as high up as possible on the natural listing page.

To achieve that, we need to have as many relevant websites with good Page Rank, preferably those that are higher than ours, giving us a link back and pointing to our site. This way, Google will think that our site is important and rank us higher than other similar websites with less quality incoming links.

I think I need to work harder in getting more reciprocal link back from other sites.

Here I held it for so darn long, four months, and when I finally managed to sell it off thanks to a little run on the market, there it declares dividend and my remisier did not alert me that it is going to declare soon. Otherwise, I would have held on to it longer! Pah!

Two weeks ago, my sister went online to check out Farreys.com for fixtures for her bathroom, living room and kitchen. A Touching Parental Lawsuit

I heard about a very touching parental lawsuit from a Tulsa Lawyer. The baby was given up for adoption without the father's consent. How could that happen? And worse, the father did not even know of his birth. In the end, with the help of Kania Law Office, he managed to reverse the earlier trial judgement that allowed his baby boy to be adopted without his consent.

It was indeed very cruel not to let him know of the birth of his baby no matter what happened between him and the baby's mother. I am sure many parents would feel outraged that a man's parental rights are terminated by law just like that.

Luckily, this lawsuit has a happy ending. This can't be said for many other similar cases.

OMG! So Leng Chai!

Last evening I was having dinner at my usual kopitiam and in came a group of young people, in their 20s or so, and one of the guys is sooooo handsome! I believe that in my lifetime, there aren't many guys whom I think is handsome. Yes, there are some who are passable, but the real handsome ones, I don't think there were more than five people. I guess my standard is so high even I can't match it :-)

If I had a digicam or a camera phone, I would have sneakily captured his picture and published it here on my blog!

Let me see.... is he as leng chai as Ji Sung? It's hard to compare because their physiques are different. Anyway, my heart melted and I am not able to do anything *sob* *sob* just like the time I met that Gallen Lo lookalike *sigh*

Which Car To Buy?

I was talking to a friend who wanted to buy a car. He has just checked out the Used Car Classifieds and gotten more and more confused.

He asked me for my opinion if he should buy an expensive car for show like the Chevy Corvette or at least a Chevy Camaro. Or should he go for practicality instead, like the Toyota Corolla saloon car.

His wife, meanwhile, would rather have something more family orientated, like a Toyota Matrix. It is a very difficult decision for him to make. He could well afford any car he wishes, but he would feel guilty splurging too much on a car!

I don't own a car myself, although I have always been fascinated with roadsters and my dream is to own a roadster! I can't afford the latest models nor the classic ones. So if I were to buy one, I would get a mid-range one. So I'm going for the Audi TT Roadster!

Bring Back Retail Investors

In a recent speech, our PM said that he will implement measures to bring back retail investors to KLSE. To be frank, after reading the whole full length article, I have no idea what will be implemented and cannot see how the things he said will make retail investors return to the market. Well, once bitten, twice shy, you know?

What I know is that KLSE has to lengthen T+3 to maybe T+7. This will allow room for financial planning and manipulation for the retail investor to decide to play contra or pa up.

As a trader myself, of course I try my best to get out of the market BEFORE I have to pay up. Small players like me do not like our money tied up.

I remember my remisier told me that in this market, even a MYR2000 share is considered expensive. He said that it would be better to keep the cash in the bank to reap interest rather than risk it in the market. How much interest can one reap even if it is a year long Fixed Deposit?

Remember the good times when one lot alone on the First Board is at least MYR5000 while those active ones on the Second Board are on the average MYR8000 and some even going above MYR10000.

As a consolation, I read before that a miscarriage occurs because there is something wrong with the embryo, so it is a natural force that makes it fall off.

We can look at it in a negative way and think it could have been a baby, and we could look at it in a positive light and think that if it were carried to full term, the baby would not have been well. That's why they miscarry in the first place.

I guess the only thing a couple who has experienced this is to put it behind and try for another baby.

Four March Birthdays

March is a very bad month for me because all my friends seem to be March babies! Well, there actually are four only, but when it comes to buying gifts for them all in the same month, I do seriously feel the pinch. That's why I think online coupons are God sent.

Linking Bank Accounts To M2U

I wanted to link my other Maybank account with my Maybank2u account. I wasted a lot of time searching on the M2U website for instructions on how to do so but there was nothing there.

And then I forgot all about it.

Then I wrote in to customer service via the M2U contact form and how silly, after one day, when I thought that they have replied me, I received an automated reply from them saying that my message will be attended to in a few working days' time.

Oh dear, is there a serious lag in their emailing system? If they wanted to send out an automated email, at least make it instant, right?

I had to wait for a few days more and then finally received a reply. It seems that to link my own bank accounts to my M2U account, I would have to go to the nearest Maybank branch and fill out the Kawanku Electronic Banking Services (KEBS) form.

That really made me go, "HUH?" I thought that they have already gone paperless, that's why I do not have a passbook but now they want me to go and fill out some form. Wouldn't it be true electronic banking if I could just log in to my M2U account, fill out an electronic form and then voila, it is linked after being verified by Maybank Staff somewhere in a Maybank branch or HQ?

I did have an unpleasant experience with Public Bank recently too. I feel that banks need to be more user-friendly and not give us, their customers, the runaround.

Blood Test Report

Yesterday I went to collect the blood profile report of my little monkey. It is not very good. He failed a couple of subjects. His white blood cell count is still very high but it has halved from the first time the vet checked during his first visit.

So that means his health is still not 100% and he has to be on another course of antibiotics. I would say that apart from the bladder stone, his health is only at 80%. He is still weak, though.

This means that my monkey is not fit enough to go through bladder stone surgery as discussed. Preferably, the surgery will be performed when my monkey is completely cured from the bacteria infection, unless it is an emergency brought upon by total urine blockage. God have mercy!

Besides, we normally will accept 360 degree feedback like this better than a face-to-face appraisal where we can't help but think that it's a personal attack.

I do feel that the overall staff performance has improved after being put through Appraisal360. I guess everyone would like to have a better report in the next round.

I Finally Sold It!

Yay, I heave a sigh of relief. I finally sold my share, with profit too. Not much, but at least I did not lose! Phew** It really is not easy to make a profit when the market sentiment is so weak and volatile.

The tide can turn so quickly. I actually wanted to wait for it to go higher a little more but it dropped a bit due to profit taking, and I thought, I better sell it too as I do not have time to keep tabs of it.

I would have held on to it if It had reached the safe zone but I did not want to risk it.

It is of course like gambling. It may go up the next morning, or it may drop like no body's business. A problem in a neighouring country may trigger a regional downtrend. I have experienced these two scenarios. What happened overnight may affect the market the next day. I thought with this market conditions, I am better off keeping cash for now.

Can Education Eradicate Ah Long?

I read with interest a recent news article that our Government has plans to carry out a year long campaign to educate the public on the Ah Longs malice in hopes of eradicating Ah Long.

Can this work? I am rather doubtful, you know. My family has been in the dumps before and education never helps when you are looking for money to put food on the table.

Ah Longs have not only been surviving year after year but have turned bolder and bolder seemingly due to protection and a demand for their service.

If the Government makes it easier for the rakyat to cari makan, reduce our taxes and lower our utility tariff, then I do believe that may be the answer to make Ah Longs die off.

Most people are caught in the Ah Long web because they are desperate for the cash and always think that they will be able to repay the small loan the following month. Little did they realise that with the snowballing of interest day after day, it is not as easy as it seem.

And then it will seem like suicide is the only way out of the web. I would like to add that suicide never solves anything.

In my opinion, the Government needs more than education in its efforts to eradicate Ah Longs.

OMG! He's Going To Die!

Last evening, my monkey went into seizures again. My monkey has been suffering from Grand Mal seizures since nine months old and last night's episode was one of the worst, with five attacks within two hours. The worst was six attacks in the same time frame a long time ago.

This bout of seizures was brought on by the monsoon season at the end of the year, and then along came Chinese New Year where every one was playing with fireworks and it's now the rainy season again. Argh how I hate the weather.

It was so bad that at one point, thought that he would not recover. Remember, he is no longer young and seizures are not as easy on him with his age. I called up the vet. He refused to make a house call and asked me to bring my monkey over, which I could not. It was raining and his body temperature was burning hot. And he was going to get one attack after another, how could I move him safely?

So the vet refused to come over, which I hold no grudge against him since it was already an hour an a half since he closed his clinic. But imagine, if it was a real emergency, my monkey would have died. I understand that he is the top vet in town and he is a very busy man, BUT STILL!

It's because I have no other choice that I am stuck with him.

My skin is sometimes so bad, especially when I am stressed out and do not have enough of rest that I am embarrassed by it. Of course, it doesn't help my self-esteem either. I have tried many over the counter products but none really helped.

It's a Guy Thing

A friend of mine recently received a windfall. And the first thing he did with his money is SHOPPING!

What do guys typically shop for? Things on his shopping list included laptop, desktop, TV and mobile phone. All high end ones, mind you.

On the other hand, my recent windfall, yes I also was lucky enough to receive a windfall which comes but once in a blue moon, this was what I spent on:

Paid creditor A - RM2000
Paid creditor B - RM150
Paid creditor C - RM150
Set aside money for creditor D (I am planning to pay him in a lump sum) - RM1000
Set aside money for my monkey's medical bills - RM500
Household expenses - RM1000

And divided the balance into two and shared it with a family member, which left me with less than RM500.

Am I silly or what?

Some people ask me why do I have to pay off the debts which are not my personal debts? Well, the answer is in upbringing and the sense of responsibility, which many people will not understand.

So, yeah, I too would love to treat myself to a brand new laptop, desktop, TV and cellphone. But maybe some other time :-)

Exchanging Easter Gifts

Easter is coming soon and it is our company's tradition to exchange gifts among the staff. This year, I plan to get a couple of Easter baskets for the bosses. It always helps to give them great gifts that will impress their wives.

After so many years, I have actually run out of Easter gift ideas until I came across the idea of giving Easter gift baskets in a magazine. I like the idea to be able to personalize the baskets. I can be sure that only the things that are well liked by the recipient will be included.

Besides, with prices starting from under $50 for such high quality products that are in the basket, I would say the gift baskets are affordable for me enough to buy a couple. After all, it is a once a year affair only.

Pet Funeral Service

I met a couple at the vet's yesterday. They have three dogs and the eldest is already ten years old. They asked if I know of any company that is offering pet funeral service. They would like to be prepared for that eventuality.

Some people will think that this is "too much" but if you have kept a pet for more than ten years and have treated it like family, you would not think so.

Can you see your pet's body be dumped in the heap of rubbish by the rubbish collector? This is what will happen if you leave it to one particular vet in my city. If any animal dies in his hands, he will just call up the rubbish collector to get the carcass.

At another vet clinic, the odd job worker will send the body to a far spot and dig a shallow grave for it. I think nobody would want to see that happening to a family member, right?

I have read that a company in Kuala Lumpur is offering such a service. If anyone has utilized such a service before, please let me know by leaving a comment.

Highlights on Virginia

My friend, Luival, is from Virginia, USA. He recently invited me to visit him but due to work and family commitments, I am regrettably declined. However, I did promise to attend his wedding, which should be at the end of next year. So I better start saving money now!

As a teaser to tempt me to visit Virginia, Lui told me about the great things that one can see and do in his home state.

He told me that to understand Virginia, one has to look at the history of the state. For one, Virginia is the mother of Presidents, a state where eight United States Presidents were born in.

While these eight Presidents were in office respectively, they contributed much to the state, making Virginia one of the more developed Southern State. To study, work or simply to live in Virginia is an excellent choice thanks to its advancement in education, business and of course politics.

Lui said that should I decide to go, I should put up at a hotel in Virginia Beach. He said this is where the top hotels in Virginia Beach are. From the photos that I have seen online, I have to agree!

According to Lui, crime rate is very low in Virginia but some home owners have taken the extra precaution of installing Hidden Cameras for security. With this, people know that they cannot get away with the crime and it has driven crime cases down. I think that eventually, every home in the United States should be encouraged to have security cameras installed.

Lui knows that I am adventurous in my food. I am sure to try something new wherever I travel, just to get a taste of the local delicacies. And it will be no different in Virginia. There will surely be something that will be exciting to try out from the seven best restaurants in Virginia Beach.

LipSense, Lipstick With A Difference

Monkey Blood Test

During our last trip to the vet's, the vet advised us to get a full blood profile test of our monkey. We agreed and became RM80 poorer. The entire visit cost RM115. Yes, my monkey has full pet insurance coverage from me.

Anyway, the purpose of the blood test was to check how much he has recovered from his last sickness that was caused by ticks.

And it is also to check his blood readings in preparation of his bladder stone surgery. It just numbs me thinking of what my monkey has to go through. My poor little baby will be in tremendous pain and I along with him.

I don't even know how much this bill will come up to for subsequent follow up reviews at the vet's post operation. I think I will have to set aside RM1500 *sigh*

One A, Two Cs, the rest ... ?

I didn't even know the 2006 SPM results would be released the other day until I received an SMS from a friend whose message read:

"Today is the saddest day of my life. My 2nd son
received only one A and two Cs in his SPM."

To be absolutely frank, when I was scrolling down his message up till My 2nd son, I thought that he was telling me that his son died in an accident.

So to read further about the one A and two Cs was absolutely a relieve.

He blames himself for neglecting his son. He and his wife divorced when the boy was not even five years old and although the boy and his elder brother and mother live with their maternal grandparents, the grandparents treat them as if they are tenants.

Meanwhile the mother has a new boyfriend while the father struggles with his career and paying alimony to his family.

So, this boy out of loneliness or neglect or whatever, just ate himself until like a balloon. It is a shock to see the size he has become. Some people drown their sorrow in alcohol, some in drugs and some in food.

Anyway, my friend told me that because of the sins of two adults, his son has t suffer for his entire life, due to the extremely poor SPM results.

I told him that getting results like that is not the end of the world. Or is it? find out what he likes to do and get him into a technical course where he can pick up some skills, since he is not the studying kind.

The boy is not stupid but hopefully, his poor results will jolt him out of his honeymoon and that when he has the chance to study, he will do so.

10% Price Difference

Well, I have mentioned time and again that I am looking to buy a printer all-in-one. Previously, I went to Tesco to check it out and it was selling at RM299. This HP, I keep forgetting the model, has the printer, scanner and copier functions. It does not have fax function which is not a problem for me.

Anyway, yesterday I went to Makro and saw this same model selling at RM269 only. That is a RM30 difference which is 10%. Makro has been taken over by Tesco Express since January, 2007 and so why the huge price difference?

After meddling with it for a little while, I don't quite like it that the joint of the flap doesn't feel solid. It's so creaky and feels like plastic. I don't know, I think I do expect more from a brand name like HP.

I think it's time to scout for another set during PC Fair. Is it next month? It can't some soon enough.

Tonight I came across divineMAGgees female rock band website. I have actually heard of them a couple of years ago when they came out with their debut studio album, Love Me Like The Roses, which received heavy airplay on the radio.

I was told by a fellow fan that divineMAGgees will be coming out with a new studio album this year but he could not give me further details so I searched for their website online.

With passion, though, we can overcome these barriers and not let ourselves be the victim of what society wants us to be. We can rise above the enclosure that society has put us into.

Because of what society deems is right or wrong, we form mental walls around us and then believe that what society says is the gospel truth. Well, it is not.

Paul has always encouraged me to be what I want to be. He tells me that I can be who I want to be. Don't let others tell me differently. "Set your goals," he said, "work towards them and enjoy the ride."

If you have the passion to do something, DO IT, even if society frowns upon you. Of course, he is talking about setting goals and chasing dreams and not something illegal or a criminal offence.

Live as you want to live, work as you want to work, even if you are different, these are what make you stand apart, what makes you special, what makes you YOU.

My friend chided me. He said that with my negative disposition, I can never be a cheerleader. He said if he were to be my team member, he will already know what I will say. All negative words.

I think that I am a realist and I look at things from both sides of the coin. I do not like to cheat myself and keep telling myself that all is rosy when it is not. So is this wrong? Is my friend right to say that I am negative?
